Dobyns Dx

Featured Replies

Getting a new rod for my Pixy, and was looking at a Dobyns Champ Extreme. I was looking at the 701c and the 702c. Which rod is the better choice? I will mainly be throwing 1/8 oz drop shots, 3/32 oz shaky heads, and small cranks. I dont want a rod that is too whippy, but I want it to protect 7lb line. Which is the better choice? Thanks

702c or 742c would be my personal choice for what you've listed.  Mentioning too whippy I fear the 701c might be just slightly too soft for you, although it still doesn't behave like a crankbait rod.  Hope this helps!

702

701 is a buggy whip

702 would be my choice. I actually use my 742 for weightless senkos which doesn't require a finesse reel

This is a bold face lie.

Grant can't use rods over 7'. Don't let him tell you his tall tales of sin and debauchery of rods in the excess of 7'.

Thanks guys. Will the DX702C work well for the applications listed? Or is there something that would work better

Yeah it will work. when you get that low, the rod becomes a very intricate part of the operation. I would personally rather fish the 701 /w those tiny weights due to the fact it will load much easier. Being you don't want a whippy rod though, the 702 will suffice just fine. Both will protect 7#line fine.

I love my 742c. I have an aldebaran bfs on mine and can cast a weightless trick worm plenty far. My vote would be for either of the 2 power rods.

702 vote here. It's one of the special rods in the DX line.

702c, but d**n the 701C is a blast to use....

Both of those Vids are with the 701c

If you can make the comparison, how do you think the 701 compares to a 1 power g loomis.

Those are sweet videos Trey. Is the 702c the same blank as the 702sf?

no

I have a collegiate deal with dobyns and I've talked to them regularly about this kind of rod. For dropshots and shakyheads, I was recommended a 702 over a 701. For what it's worth haha
