Spoonplugging...

Great read so far. Received it for Christmas. Ive read 50-60 pages, and Ive learned more in that time, than I have in all my life, about the "why's".

Buck Perry's teachings should be mandatory reading.

I read that back in the late 70's and have always admired Mr. Perry and his teachings. Best gift to give to any young fisherman today. :)

I was just thinking that there is another thread that is active right now where they are having a discussion about some of  Mr. Perry's theory.  Might be interesting for you since you are well into the book.

Regardless of what your thoughts or fishing philosophy might be, Buck's book (Spoonplugging) is one of those that everyone should read at some point. In a different thread, Roger just mentioned another, that being Jason Lucas' book (Lucas On Bass). A few others I would have to add to everyone's list are Robert Page Lincoln's book (Black Bass Fishing), the Bill Murphy/Paul Prorok book (In Pursuit of Giant Bass), and Dr, Keith Jones' book (Knowing Bass). But first take your time with "Spoonplugging". There's a lot to digest in there :)

I also have Bill Murphys

You are in good shape then. If you liked Bill's book, you'll also like Spoonplugging. The similarity and overlapping concepts between the two might surprise you, but there's good reason for that :rolleyes7:

Looks like I will be getting some new reading material.

I am almost done with Bass Wisdom and In Pursuit of Giant Bass should hopefully be waiting for me at home after work today.  It looks like Spoonplugging will be next!

I'll have to check a few of these out. Thanks for the info!

I did too. I had a complete set of spoonplugs in each size in two different colors. That concept allowed you to find bottom & learn depths without a graph. Occasionally I even caught a few fish using them.

Baitmonkey strikes again ... placed my order.  Sounds like some good winter reading.  :)

Is this book only about trolling?

No. It's about fish and the habitat they live in. What structure REALLY is. How to approach finding and catching fish (all species) without the use of a graph or map. Trolling is an integral part of the teachings, but is not the most significant learning tool which Mr. Perry's teachings provide.
