I'm on a very tight budget right now and I'm looking to upgrade the bearings in my lews carbon fiber speed spool and i wanted to use the ABEC 7s but i can't afford that so i was gonna get the ABEC 5s.  is there that much of a difference in them? and how are the ABEC 5s if i do decide to get them, do they work just as good?

If you're on a budget you should look at hawgtech's bearings!

Abec 5 is all you need. The 7's are just more of an enthusiast upgrade. I'll also second the Hawgtech bearings. Plenty of folks on here really like them.

Cannondale make some good ceramic hybrid bearings. I get them off ebay.

I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" that said all bearing are not created equal. Whether you go with Boca, hawgtech, or the unknown brand from eBay recommended by floridafishinfool realise that you do get what you pay for.

What kind of performance are you trying to achieve by getting New bearing?

I'm just trying to make the reel a little smoother I've had it for a year already and have used it religiously throughout the summer

there a little noisy and not that smoothwhen casting and i have cleaned them so i thought that new bearings and a little oil would fix that problem

ABEC 5 hybrid bearings are as fast as anything a reel can use. Before investing in bearings at all I recommend pro cleaning and / or Super Tuning. The difference between bearings in a tuned reel is much less. I say this even as a Boca distributor. If you want bearings beware of the cheap ones as counterfeit bearings are common.

if your going to stay with bocas it will be worth the extra twenty bucks for the 7s. now that i just heard about hawgtech im going to look into them. i use bocas because thats all i knew of.
