Goliath Grouper

Featured Replies

I will be in Orlando around the beginning of march, I was just wondering if anybody had experience with these huge fish and if they could recommend a charter fairly close to Orlando. I

Check Scott Martins site out. His show was just about fishing for Grouper, might be something on there. Brian.

Take a trip down to fort Myers or sanibel area. There should be several guides there. They are great fish to see come up.

They're on the bucket list for my sons and me!

No experience other than what I've watched on TV.

You might want to check with a guide in the Sebastian inlet area or if you can drive further south ft. Pierce. If your staying near the attractions you can jump on the FL turnpike or 528 and be at Sebastian in around 2 hours or Ft. Pierce in about 2.5 or 3 hrs. Good luck and abide all the game laws, the FWC does not mess around and goliath grouper are very protected, I think there is a captain named George Godze or Gotze who has a good reputation. Good luck and hang on!

Got my boy hooked up on a couple last summer down off cudjoe key...he got hooked up, but could not get them to the boat...

I tried to warn him, but it was fun watching my 11 year old battle. He could handle 75lb tarpon with no problem, but the jewfish...funny to watch.

I have seen shows where guys down in the keys, hook big jacks or snappers for bait along the bridges. When the G. grouper hits, the anglers have to do the best they can not to be yanked out of the boat. When they bring the fish up to the surface, they are so HUGE!!

Definitely a fish I'd like to tangle with!

Just don't go looking for them first...

Not for me anymore.  A big difference in landing a bottom fish like a big grouper, many larger sharks fight the same way.  It's brute strength just to get them off the bottom.  Tarpon or billfish are totally different, they run out not deep and can be chased after with the boat.  You may not see what the helmsman is doing on tv with 100+ tarpon on a fly rod, almost a guarantee he/she following after the fish.  Can't do that with grouper, that fish is right underneath the boat and not moving too far or too fast.

That's a young man's game with a strong back.

Definitely a fish I'd like to tangle with!

I've watched the top Vidio crazy!!
