Line Color?

Featured Replies

So I'm wanting to string up a bait caster I got with trilene original fire line. But my local Walmarts only have the hi visibility green/yellow. And didn't wana order just a role of the smoke color since I dont need to order anything. Do you guys think that line color realy matters? My other rods have dark or light green braid

If you want to run straight braid you still can. Just take a sharpie and color your desired length black. Hi-vis braid is great if you're a line watcher

Short answer.... Yes, if I can see it, maybe the fish can too.  Also, just an opinion, I would skip the Fire Line and try something else.  There are several options that are better in braid line, Suffix and Power Pro just to name a few.

Really? I've fiahed power pro, and fins wind tamer braid. I like them a lot. But kept hearing and reading great things about the fire line.

I usually don't say this but.. If you search this forum you will see that there are mixed reviews on this line.  I had trouble with line splintering and breaking.  I tried multiple spools in different weights, all had the same issues.  Most people I know tried it when it came out (this may have already been stated in another post about this line) but it was a sort of a "one and done" line.

If you do think maybe the line color is keeping you from catchin fish...just tie a leader of flourocarbon or mono. I just don't think you can beat the price of Power Pro. It's a good line that ALOT of people use.

Berkely caused some confusion for a while and had a braid that was called fire line.  That has now changed.  The orginal fused line sucks.  Tons of great choices as said earlier.  There are a lot of new briads out there that are 8 carrier and i have not seen any reviews yet.  Suffix performance braid is at some walmarts and so is 832.  Both are good stuff if thats all you have access to.  A leader might be a good idea, black is visible at all depths and i dont see how that would help.

I've had great luck with fins wind tamer, so far. A local tackle shop sells is. Maybe I will stray away from the idea of fire line thanks for the help guys

Line brands aside, I've fished clear fluorocarbon & various colors of much more visible braided lines (no leader) side by side & not really noticed a difference in my hook up ratio. (I used to shy away from using braid w/o a leader b/c I couldn't imagine a fish eating a lure tied directly to it). Sometimes, I think fishermen make a much bigger deal out of line type/color than is necessary.

There have quite a few threads on here in the last month or so re: braid. I don't  recall the OP headline but it was about Fireline. I believe the most popular opinion was " there are many better".  If I recall right, I think PP won hands down although there were a whole lot of other opinions.

I have only tried Power Pro and I am very satisfied. So I will be another to say Power Pro is great for the price
