Hey yall I am going to try and learn jigs. They sound like a all year long bait that catches fish. I don't have alot of money so somewhere around 100 bucks is all I got. I want a jig rod that I can flip and pitch round docks and cover but also fish deep with a football head. Any suggestions? Also any tips for beginners would be helpful as well thanks

Get a Veritas (MH/F 7'3) or a Carbonlite (7' H/F). 

 

It would also be helpful to know what weight range of the jigs you'll be using. 

Phenix maxium 6'10 mh or a phenix m1 7'2 mh if you want to spend a little more.

Finding a rod that you are comfortable with is an individual thing. 

 

I happen to really like the handle design on the Daiwa Lexa casting rods. That style and thickness of the handle feels most comfortable to me. I have used some other casting rods where I find the design of the "trigger" to be annoying or the handle is too thin for my hands. For a rod in that price range I find the Lexa to have good sensitivity for working jigs in the 1/4 ounce - 3/4 ounce range.

 

Daiwa Lexa Casting Rod 7'2" Med Hvy, currently selling for $ 99.99 at Tackle Warehouse but I noticed Bass Pro Shops moved them off the shelf recently (makes me think there may be a price drop / liquidation shortly).

 

I notice you listed Lake Anna as a favorite location, from what I know of that lake many of the docks there are in fairly shallow water (usually less than 8 feet deep). A good way to build confidence with a jig is to start pitching 1/4 or 3/8 ounce jigs at shallow cover items. The smaller profile jigs appeal to a wider range of bass size-wise so you will get more bites. More bites helps to develop confidence in the presentation. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

I'm a Fenwick fan.  At that price point the 7' MHF is rated for 3/8-1 oz.  If you prefer longer, the 7'6" MH-XF carries the same rating.  It appears to have the same trigger as the Aetos rods.  It is the one item I don't care for....I prefer the trigger to be a bit longer.  Sensitivity is a good thing for bottom contact baits.  The more the better.  The Aetos is very good should you decide to spend more.

I have the 7'6" H/XF Aetos and it's my pitching rod.  Sensitivity is very good.  I didn't mention Aetos because they aren't in your price range.  So if you can swing it, Aetos is an awesome rod. 

My 7'3" MH Vendetta is that rod for me....great bang for the buck.

I'd recommend you spend more money towards the rod. With a bottom contact bait like a jig, you want the rod to be as sensitive as possible.

My friend has one and I've used it some. The sensitivity is all right. You're not going to feel every pebble but you will probably feel most bites, and Berkeley knows how to make a durable rod (excluding the old red cherrywoods).

If you are going to spend that little, then you picked a decent rod for the money.  Be sure to use braid with it.  My Berkley is a 6' MH Lightning (not the Shock) that sees duty as a dedicated spinnerbait rod.
