Has anybody ever used braid as a leader? I have 10 yards of braid leftover, and I was wondering if I should use it as a leader to some mono.

Why would you want a braid leader?

Because I have some leftover braid I don't want to waste.

Some people use braid as backing.  Your leftover braid might be better suited there

No reason you can't use it as a leader.

But I can't imagine one why you'd want to.

 

I use extra braid to repair my kids' school

backpacks (when they leave a lunch in it

and the dog(s) shred them apart to find the

awesome smelling food left therein, LOL).

Definitely better used to hang up garland at Christmas; strap corn husks to the mailbox around Halloween; hang the bird feeder; repair any cloth item; stretch a span of it across your garage to hang jigheads on when painting them; fix the ping pong table net; practical jokes around the house on April 1st; school projects; and many more

well look at the bright side you filled your reel and have 30ft  leftover of nice strong household string

String for odd jobs.  Depending on the diameter it can be used to tie jigs, if you want it for a fishing use.

No good reason to use it as a leader. Poor abrasion resistance and high visibility. Toss it.

I've used plenty of left over braid for tying things together, sewing ripped back packs or hanging pictures.

I do like the practical joke idea but getting tangled in 30+lb braid does not sound fun for the person caught in the stuff.

There's a guy on another thread who needs a new rope for his trolling motor, maybe you could help him out?

You can donate to kids using a cane pole and bobber type fishing.

For any sizable fish I want a little bit of shock, braid doesn't furnish that.  Toothy critters can easily bite thru braid, one thing we have down here is fish with sharp teeth.  There are species that will attack a swivel as quick as the lure, which is quite evident when just the braid comes back bare with no swivel or leader.  If a strike snaps the line you'll feel it, cut off you won't, just have a limp line.

X2 tie them on there so you don't open up your jig box to find that a bunch of rubber bands broke and now you have a bunch of naked jigs
