I heard Mike McClelland talking about this reel at the weigh in today, so I went and checked it out. It's on sale for $149.99 right now. The reel is quite obviously made by Daiwa. The interesting part is that it's the exact same price as the Tatula 100, but has four more bearings. The Arachnid has 12 bearings (9BB+2CRBB+1RB), while the Tatula 100 has 8 (7SS + 1RB). What do you guys think about this? I'd say if you're looking at a Tatula, definitely get the Arachnid.

I agree. The Arachnid looks like a Tatula on Steroids. It has more bearings (and better bearings), and a ZAION drag star. The ZAION drag star really sticks out to me at this price point.

It's a ridiculous reel for the price. I just hope people see this so they know about it and spread the word.

You can find tatulas for around 100 and I don't consider bearings on both reel knobs and worm drive to be of much use.

It's a Tatula type R with 2 bearings added to the handle,2 bearings added to support the worm gear, and different color scheme. About $5 worth of bearings that can be added to any tatula reel. Though you won't notice any difference in smoothness by doing it. If you were paying retail then that is the better deal BUT you can get the type R for about $120 online. Someone asked about it not long ago.

How can it be a lot more quality when they're both the same exact reel made by the same exact company? Only difference being the paint job. That's like saying the Chronarch 50E is better quality than the Curado 50E. Same reel with different paint job. Yes,bearings are that cheap. I was being nice when I said $5. Daiwa gets them by the thousands. So they're only a few cents each. I got 10 of them for $5 shipped. That's only 50 cents each.

I was comparing this reel to the Tatula, not the Type R. And I was arguing that the from straight retail with no upgrades, the Arachnid is nicer than the Tatula. Not exactly sure how you can not agree with that.

The type R has the Zion drag star,ported frame,anodized spool,cast control cap,2 crbb,and a lighter spool. If you read my first post I said at retail it is the better deal verse the R BUT you can buy the type R for $120 online. If someone wants to pay retail then that's clearly up to them. I would not when you can get the regular or R for cheaper. Not my money though.

That was the point. MOST people buy retail, so they might as well get this reel. And it IS a fair comparison because they're the same price...

That's entirely up to you. I have 2 regular Tatula's and a type R. If you blindfolded me I could not tell the difference between them. Same with adding the extra bearings to the reel to make it a 12 bearing reel. One of my Tatulas I added them and the other is totally stock. I'm not even sure which one I did it too. I'd have to pull off a knob and check. For me the only reason I bought a type R was because I wanted the 8:1 ratio.

I'd say more than half pay retail on TWH for their reels. Suggesting that it's 2015 just means we have access to many resources. Most don't take advantage of it.

Well if you have one of cabelas 20 off 100 or more coupons, and or some cabelas bucks buy the reel. If not buy the type r from walmart.com for 130 free shipping to the wally world near you.

 I really like the black and blue color but I agree 100% with rippin-lips. I'm just not going to be buying one when I can find the Tatula for $85.00 on line and the Type-r I've bought for as little as $115
