Can you make a limit of keepable fish only as LMB? Or can they be small mouth too? What about other species like catfish and gar for example. Just curious like if someone gets to weigh in with 3 LMB 1 SMB and a catfish. Would that count?

I had the same reaction! Not laughing at you at all because believe me... I could have won some very big tourneys if catfish and drum counted!

I'm sure they would love to weigh them!! Can you image a 20lbs cat out of nowhere? Lol

Generally it's defined as all variations of "black bass" since there's more than just largemouth, smallmouth, and spots out there. Nearly every tournament I've ever fished on Table Rock someone brings in a nice meanmouth to the scales.

I googled Meanmouth , its a hybrid. I remember reading about them in Bassmaster decades back. There was talk of raising them in a fishery and stocking them.

Correct, they are a naturally occurring hybrid. I've seen quite a few caught at Table Rock, but only fortunate enough to have caught 1 myself. They're a beautiful fish though.

Kentucky Spots and Alabama Spots are very different strains. The giants in CA would be non existent if Kentucky spots were introduced rather than Alabama spots.

I thought I read that somewhere, but I wasn't sure. Still waiting to stumble upon a spot, we don't have them around here

Ott Defoe caught a really nice Striper on Day 1 of the Classic. I bet for a moment there his heart was racing, but he probably realized pretty quick he wasn't dealing with a black bass.

If you are fishing a tournament in Texas & come to the scales with 5 Guadalupe bass, odds are you won't win.  

 

Unless the tournament is on some little stream system with no largemouth or smallmouth, then you have a good chance.
