Jig makers

Featured Replies

I recently started assembling my own jigs and I'm really liking the result.  My only problem is matching the jig head with the various Starflash skirts I have (by the way, feedback on the round silicone???).  Do the lure paints work well with jigs and should I just stock up on some?  I don't like the look of a brown football jig with a white and blue skirt on it

I haven't used the starflash material, but have heard good things.

It depends on how much looks matter to you.  You will still catch them on raw lead.  You can use lure paint or nail polish.  An epoxy top coat will make that application much more durable, but is another step and more time.  If your jigs are raw lead I would look into some powder paint, try black for starters.

I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate powder paint, but I use it.  I just can't get it down 100%.  I'd say 3 out of 10 that I paint come out screwed up in one way or another.  I'm about to start using epoxy over some other type of paint until I can afford a fluid bed.

I use barbed wire or nature's edge skirts 99% of the time.  I'm out right now though.   :'(

Why do you use brown on that head if you dont like it?  Just get some white or something.

Powder paint is a whole lot better then epoxy I think.  That other stuff takes too long and is a pain.  PP is the way to go and is fast.

Are you painting your own heads???? I use powder paint and will never go back to liquid paints if I don't have to. if you are buying your heads already painted then try and find on that matches the color you need. I agree that a brown head will look funny on that color skirt.....but who knows you might have the next big trend   :)

Do you all use a fluid bed for powder painting or do you just use the jar it came in?  I'm thinking about investing in a fluid bed if they are worth the money and effort.  Any suggestions on brands if y'all do use them?

i like using the powder paint but i haven't used any other to compare

Google fluid beds there are plenty of articles on how to make one alot cheaper then you can buy them.

Defiantly use a fluid bed!!!! The finish is much more uniform and you won't be throwing away as many jigs after you inspect them for quality. Just using the jar allows he paint to clump, where the fluid bed keeps the paint moving and doesn't give it he chance to build up more than it is needed. I made my own fluid bed and there are tons of articles out there on making them, but i have always wondered if a store bought bed would be any better.

I agree with harshman 100%.  But I fish my seconds.  Build your own fluid bed.  Cost about 15-20 bucks.  It wont be perfect but It works very good.
