My question is this still a good deal and how would this older rod (originally $219) compare to the newer rods in that sale price range like an equivalent *** for example?

Hard to beat a gen 1 Cumara brand new for 120 bucks. I don't think you will find a better rod new at that price.

I'd jump on that. It's an excellent rod. Wish I had one of my own. I've only ever used someone else's

Thats a great buy, im a huge fan of the 1st gen cumaras. Great handle/reelseat, SIC guides, light, and sensitive blank. You wont find a better production rod in 2015 for that money.

I'm in the hunt for more, these are my 2nd favorite Shimano rod.  Number 1 is a Cumulus which is even harder to find.  For 120 I would buy a couple.

I ask because from what I read about the MH-XF was that it was a terrific jig rod.......but you had to stay within its weight range.  I have the MH-F and like it a lot.

 

At that price, I wouldn't care which model it was.  I'd grab it.

JB, when the Cumara came out it was the best rod in the world.

I got a black 7'6" Med/Fast Cumara spinning rod that I really didn't need.

It made all my others obsolete.

I own 4 of the older Gen 1 black Cumara rods. Love them. Bought all of them new, but on sale. As good of rod or better than any rods around the $100-$150 pricepoint currently in production. I have the 7'2 MH XF casting rod and it a good rod for 3/8 to 3/4 oz jigs. It also works well for bigger texas rigs and some soft plastic paddle tail swimbaits.

Great rod. I really like mine. I don't want to part with them, but I've made some purchases that require some money to be recouped.

Have it, love it, go get it . Still a $200 rod in my eyes

Had my 6'8 spinning rod up for sale the other day , decided to keep it. I think they have one of the most unique reel seats. Keeping that and my 6'8 casting rod, one of the most versatile rods out there. Unfortunately sold my two prized cumulus rods but needed to recoup money. Still regret selling my 6'5 cumulus spinning model,that was an awesome rod. Only have one cumulus left now, my 6'5 casting rod.

Buy it and ship it to me and I'll pay you for it.

The 7-4 casting model is my go to rod for jigs and worms. This might be blasphemous but I like it just as much as my Megabass X4.

hooligan, just curious what it is that's unique about the reel seat?  i recently bought a newer (red) cumara and it has a "clicking" or locking (not quite sure) reel seat (or rear threads), but not sure if that's what you're referring to.

 

and OP, i absolutely love the newer version cumaras i recently picked up (6'8"MH casting and 6'8"M spinning).  if these guys are all saying the older version is even better i would have ran back and bought it by now.

The 1st gen cumara spinning models had a longer handle, much more comfortable. I like the newer red model, especially the blank and guides, just didnt like the short handle and red blank color...

gotcha.  i probably hold mine a little odd so the handle doesn't seem too short.  and the aesthetics (red) are no problem or concern of mine.  i'll readily admit the pflueger patriarch blue and cumara red clash like none other, but in your hands that combo is as light as a balloon.

 

now i'm wanting to find a gen1 and see what i've been missing!

Probably one of the best rods shimano has put out.

I have the Cumara 7'6" ML/MF casting, not too fond of the rod myself prefer my gen 1 Smoke rods and Helios rods to it. But have found a purpose for it and that is ned rigs small spinnerbaits. Wouldnt buy this model again even at $100.

I had that same model.

Used it one time and got rid of rid.

It was to flimsy for my needs.

Some of the other models are great though.

Anyone have any of the Gen 1 Cumara spinning rods for sale??   I am specifically looking for the 7'6" Med Power Fast Action spinning rod.  Thank you!! 

Everyday, for the past 5-6 years, I’ve woken up and said a quick prayer asking for Shimano to bring back the cumara line of rods.

 

Im starting to think there’s no cumara god out there.

I had one but after several years it broke (probably user error).  Shimano replaced it with a Curado rod.  It has been a good rod so far.  It doesn't seem to be as well made as the Cumara but it is more sensitive, not as stiff, and it's kind of more fun to fish.
