Camo Color Line

Featured Replies

anyone use the camo colored fishing line? found a copoly i may try but was wondering if it would make line watching a little difficult. im used to the clear blue but thought about tryn something different on one of my setups

FWIW I'm transitioning to all Hi-vis for jigs & plastics. I'm much more concerned about seeing my line than the fish not seeing it, and there's always leader options.

Mike I'd be very interested in your results.

I've considered doing this for a while not but haven't had the confidence in it to go all in.

Seems like it would help.

I've never really understood the concept of camo line. I mean, how many color variations are there underwater to use as a background to make the "camo" line effective? I always assume green or clear line would be as good of a camoflauge as you would need.

I used triple fish cammo line. I just dont like Triple fish that much. I understand the concept and Bass professor Doug Hannon use to color his line.  At times ,  I will color my line in two inch strips for a few feet with a black   marker . I have seen it make a difference. Others will chime in that they "know" line visibility doesnt matter , ever  .

You can have both  use a marker on clear blue fluorescent at times where you think it might help .

That confidence is where the real difference lies imo. The anecdotal stories about swapping from braid to fluoro and getting bit all of a sudden just don't account for all the variables. How do you know you didn't just finally find them? Or the bite turned on for natural reasons? My personal experience just hasn't supported the line shyness of bass. When I first tried bed fishing, what struck me was just how fast a bass can take, move and spit a bait without you feeling a thing despite seeing it all play out. I started paying more attention to looking for lateral movement of my line, and irregularities in the drop by watching where the line meets the water. I don't keeps stats, but I definitely am getting more hookups now. This all fishing straight braid 90% of the time. If the water is gin clear I may throw on a leader for a little insurance but I don't loose sleep over it.

Trout fishing clear shallow streams is another story. There I'll use the lightest, clearest line I can get away with. Again, based on personal experience.

I do fish extremely clear water up here - but don't use any Fluorocarbon line or leaders.  Standard procedure here does usually require a drop in line size to get bit, especially for smallmouth.

It's one of the reasons I fish a lot at night in the summer - takes all that out of the equation.

Just can't wrap my mind around bright yellow braid unless I have a 25 foot leader

I remember one time in following an elite tournament (or just hearing someone talk about it) where the elite guys were at a Florida fishery, getting their frog/flipping/punching bite on. Aaron Martens was catching them on finesse worms and he told people he had to make the switch from 8 to 6 pound line to get bit.

Who are we to argue with AMart?

I have so much trouble seeing low-vis braid/clear mono/fluoro in certain light/water conditions. As a major line watcher it has caused me trouble. So I went to hi-vis yellow braid with fluoro leaders, works well for me.
