Why Does My Curado 200 E7 Have Alot Of Play When Reeling?

Featured Replies

I super tuned my curado and when I put it back together it seems to have alot of play when reeling and stopping. I did remove all lubricants and re lubed, It doesn't feel as smooth as expected with all bearings switched over to orange seal bearings. Any suggestions?

Could it be a anti reverse pawl issue? I can hear it clacking when i stop reeling

It's possible it may need to be squeezed slightly if it's noisy. Also you can leave it out of the reel, as it is a backup to the roller bearing..

A slight amount of back play (.5-1mm) in the spool and in/out on the drive shaft are normal. The redundant AR can be adjusted and greased to run silently but I don't understand how anything can click if nothing is turning. What exactly did you do inside the reel? How did you lubricate the AR roller clutch? Smooth means different things to different people. What are you seeing that causes concern?

The ar bearing I usually pack pretty good with grease, this time I didn't put as much on. I feel like the problem is where the ar pawl and the ar ratchet meet. I did not grease, and not sure about proper procedure.

The grease in the ar bearing may be your problem. The ar pawl wouldn't cause play because it doesn't really do anything unless the ar bearing fails. Try cleaning all the grease out of the ar bearing and see if that helps.

The anti reverse pawl can be easily bend on accident.  There is no way you would get it perfect again. I would just throw that piece of junk away.  It relies on the ar bearing anyways, as stated above, and that is 10x stronger than that crappy pawl.  It would make a ticking noise when reeling.  I had this happen to me, and tried to bend it back several times with the same results.  I removed it, and it is smoother than ever.  Have fished it over a year and no problems.  Most of the higher end shimanos actually don't even have the pawl installed from the factory, although the post for it is still in the reel, so it could be.  Does that tell you something? Also check that the handle nut is snug, as stated above, and that the cover cap and screw are in the correct position.

No grease on the AR bearing. I run them dry, however, a drop of oil on q-tip is all you need.

I finally got some time to tear into it again, the drive shaft had alot of play so I doubled up on the washers between the drive haft retainer and the idle gear. Feels a little tight but better. I'm gonna take your advice about pitching the ar pawl.

Problem solved, no ar pawl, light oil on ar bearing and now it's aright . Thanks, you guys were extremely helpful.
