Pretty Fast In The 40 Yard.

My 15 yo grandson (happens to be coming down here Saturday) is standout running back in Jr high.  He was just timed by his coach at 4.41 in the 40, that's pretty darn fast.  He will be entering high school next semester.

Doing some checking of the NFL records, he isn't too far away the top 10, at 15 he might get faster.

That's great.

But he will have more fun sitting in the stands with a pretty coed next to him ready to go back to their apartment and celebrate the win or loss.

And when he gets older he won't be a dummy from the concessions or not be able to get out of bed due to past injuries.

Don't forget those two words spoken to almost all football players:  Knee Replacement

Thats impressive!

Can't wait until he gets into college and make LSUsuck's defense look stupid and runs everyone over!!!!

Why is it that every football-related article/thread/news segment has to have an obligatory "football will kill you" disclaimer, even from people who love to watch/play the game?  Sam, you're a big Alabama football fan.  If you think those young men are putting their health, and perhaps their very lives, on the line for your mere entertainment, why do you watch?

Oh, and Snook, your boy is as fast as a smallmouth in good current!  Hope he gets faster, and has much success in the game, and in life!

That's a nice speed ... His speed accompanied by size and a good attitude and work ethic can get him very far

Dang! And I thought I was fast.

Preach, I am a big LSU fan and I watch the game for its beauty and understanding that the players are playing it for the love of the game, not the money.

Speed.  The difference between high school, college and the pros is speed.  The higher you go the faster the game.

One year I had seats on the sixth row on the 45 yard line when LSU played Bamasux.  The hitting was ferocious. You don't see or hear it on TV or the radio.

The head on collisions were something to see and hear.  On a few occasions my friend and I could not believe the guys just got up and walked away after a very hard tackle and collision.

We all like to watch violence as long as we are not a part of it. Football is very violent when you hit the big time schools and the NFL. Anyone wanting to play in that atmosphere has my full approval.  Just don't cry when and if you get hurt. Drag yourself off the field and put in the next guy.

Snook, speed is one of the variables the big time universities look at, plus your size.

When Arnsbarger coached at LSU he used his NFL profiles to fill his needs.

He knew how fast and strong a high school boy needed to be when he filled out and matured in order to play in the NFL and his staff at LSU worked backwards to try to recruit the kids that fell within the guidelines.

This was something new to the recruiting scene: using NFL speed, strength and size guidelines to recruit college players.

I hope your grandson continues to work on his speed and hits the weights to strengthen his legs.

As was told to me by an LSU football coach who will remain nameless: you are only as good as your legs.

Keep us posted on his high school career and let us know what schools are going after him.  If he is very good and fits the guidelines the best football programs in the country will be going after him.
