Has anyone used the new Avid X 6ft-4in medium, extra fast Baitcaster for either jerk baits or topwater? Looks like an interesting Rod, wondering how it would work for both applications?

Haven't used this rod, but I'm sure it would be pretty much perfect for both applications you stated. Long as you're using mono.

Plan on using 10 lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid..

I use an Avid 6-2 MXF for topwaters and jerkbaits. Also, short target spinnerbaits. Works fine with both braid and copoly alike.

That will be perfect for those applications, as well as those line choices are fine, Braid, yo zuri(copoly) and mono. I actually have yo zuri 10lb on my jerkbait/topwater rod as well. GL this season!

I haven't used it, but it should be a great rod for top waters and jerkbaits. 

Any one use this rod? Just paired one up in store with a curado 70. felt really nice. They also had a 6'6" M that felt good too.

Any updates?

I fish the 610mxf little quick for jb imo.  Like a regular fast or mf for that.

sorry to revive an old thread, but I've had my eye on this rod for three years. Want to throw mainly jerk baits, but the occasional popper, and casting a small swim jig, chatterbait or spinnerbait to a dock here and there. Gonna pair it up with a scorpion 71 and 10 lb yozuri. thoughts?

It's been the go to rod for those baits since around 2001, when I bought the rod.

I have this rod for these applications. I really like it for topwater as I am on the shorter side lol.

Your posting about it got me to buy one and I am glad I did, it's a wonderful rod.  It's the best rod I have fished for anything that wants to jerk, pop, walk, or twitch.  But it's still sensitive enough for bottom contact presentations as well.  I use it as a dedicated topwater rod when on my yak but it's a great versatile rod for bank beating and I am using it more and more for that.  It's so light and handy, it's great for hike-in/bushwhack fishing.  

 

This is the 3600 box I put together for bank-fishing the Avid 6'2".  It;s got a bit of everything and the rod shines with everything I have in there.

I take mine bank fishing, too.  It even throws square bills, traps and smaller shallow divers well.

Yea, I don't even understand why its so versatile.  I normally hate XF actions in anything more powerful then like a ML spinning rod, but that Avid is really something special.  

All of Saint Croix's MXF and MLXF tapers are special rods.  I must have at least 7 or 8 of them in the Avid line.  Some are even duplicates!

I have been looking at the AVS63MLXF for a while, it seems like it would be an ideal addition to my yak arsenal and be a great wading rod as well.  How well does it load at the lower end of it's range?

Agreed. I sold all my other St Croix.

I have two of them.  Those along with 2x AVS63MXF are my primary dropshot rods.  You're fine tossing tiny grubs on 16th oz. ballheads.  Anything lighter, and I'd be using an ultra light.

Cool, thanks.  I have a pair of Loomis MagL/XF spinning rods that I use for dropshot/general finesse rods on the yak and while wading but they are on the edge of being under-powered some of the time.  I think the Avid ML/XF rods sound like they would be a good bump up in power while keeping close to the same taper.
