Rod And Reel Pairing

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

A friend of mine bought me Shimano Sedona 2500 FD a few weeks back.  I'm hoping to pair it with a good rod without breaking the bank as I only anticipate spending around 40-60 bucks.  I'm only able to fish from the banks, so I don't want to over do it, since my access to waters is limited. My target species is Bass but if other fish take the bait I'm cool with it.

I'm still new to bass fishing and I keep hearing about Rods and Reels being balanced, but I really don't know what that means.  Can someone explain and can I achieve this with 40-60 bucks?  Does anyone have any recommendations on getting a good rod to pair with my reel?

Thanks Guys!

In this case, ignorance really is bliss. Don't get hung up on the "Balance" discussion. There is no right or wrong. If you have a reel to bring along when rod shopping by all means do just that. Mount a reel on the rod you're interested in and see how it feels. If you like how it feels and everything else checks out then it "balances" just fine.

Personal feel trumps and technical measurement when it comes to "balance." For me, it either feels good or not. A different rod and reel mix can be night and day difference.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the info.

So far, this is what has caught my eye that is in my price range.

7' M Berkley Lightning Rod Shock

6'6" or 7' M Ugly Stick GX2

6'6" or 7 M Bass Pro Graphite Series

I may try to head up to Bass Pro, Dicks, & Green Top this weekend with my reel to feel my way through it.

Thanks!

Check out a Calico Jack, Dicks should have them.

Out of the ones you listed I would go with the lightning rod.
