What's The Best Baitcasting Reel For Under $100 As Of 2015?

Featured Replies

Also, what's the best for under $75?

I'm actually looking to pay over the $100 mark for the Daiwa Tatula Type R, but I'm wondering if there are any suggestions for a lower priced reel...

Thanks, in advance!

If you can find the H2O Mettle on sale it is a great reel for the money. I just bought 2 for $40 last week.

I'm gonna go with a cabelas prodigy. It's basically a lexa with a 4 bearing handle and is on sale for $69. Also the cabelas prodigy which is an all aluminum (frame and sideplates) reel on sale for $100

That is what I thought too, but the Prodigy is an Exceler.  It has aluminum frame but composite sideplates (both sides) and a 4bearing handle which means, to me, it's only a good deal when it's on sale for $70.

i understand the sideplate issue but the prodigy has a metal star drag, higher drag rating and the 4 bearing handle which offers some good upgrades as opposed to the exceler and even lexa. I own 2 lexas, 2 excelers and now a prodigy and for $70 they are a steal

LFS

Heck, my old SS1HL was a heck of a reel at I believe $65 new on closeout at DSG. Can't get over the value in those entry level Lew's reels.

I've been hearing great things about this reel! I've narrowed it down to either this or the Tatula!

I have the the lfs as well. Great little reel. Dont think you could go wrong with either.

Is the little extra for the Type R not worth it?

To each his own.  Personally the finish alone is worth it to me even if casting performance is the same.  Also I am liking the 8.1:1 ratio of the Type R which isn't available in the standard Tat.  My standard Tat hasn't been spooled yet.  Bought used for less than your $100 limit.

The best reel under $100 is a used one that listed for $200 new.

Wow.  Sure has been slow lately.  At least this thread isn't 10 years old.  :teeth:

Always nice to know what current reels are the best for your buck.  Surely a few more will jump in with suggestions.
