I planned to buy either a tatula type r or an original tatula

. But after reading tackletour, they said they preferred the original tatula. There is not much difference between the weight of the spool, and many parts of the reel is the same.

 

Just wondering anyone who had tried both of these reel share with me your opinion?

I've owned both and the only differences between the two that I can feel/see are cosmetic. 

Unless you are wanting the 8:1:1 ratio then there's no need for the R.

Tackletoour's review stated they didn't feel the R was worth the extra $50 asking price.  I didn't pay but about $30 more for my Type R.  Personally I like the finish of the Type R well enough to pay that extra $30.  I also got the 8.1:1 ratio and am finding I like it a lot.

 

Some complain because it isn't as small as some reels.  Doesn't bother me at all.  I have 3 now (1 standard, 2 Type R) even tho I didn't buy the first one until last season was over.  I did get out a couple times in the cold for a little casting with the first Type R.  I like the format of this reel a lot....but then I don't think I've ever met a reel I didn't like.    Some a little better than others, tho.

Yes.  For the majority.  Last reel I bought was a 6.2:1 Scorpion because the guy is upgrading all his reels to 7:1 ratio or a bit higher.  Like most anythig else, it is personal preference.

My hand is average size and I have never noticed the taula being much bigger than any other reel
