Berkley Tracer Braid??

Featured Replies

Recently I recieved some 50lb. Berkley tracer braid and am interested in your thoughts on it. I usually use moss colored braid because I feel the fish can't see it as well(I fish mostly stained and muddy waters.). I'm worried if I use this braid the fish will be able to see it a lot easier, but I know I'll be able to see the line better as well. Anyone have issues with this before? This is all a confidence issue for me and just looking for some advice.

I'll be using this for all purpose application since I don't have a lot of money and only have a few setups. Flipping and pitching, frogs, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits.

I use it and haven't had a lot of issues. I think it helps me see the line better. I just add a fluorocarbon leader to it.

Use a green marker on it, or a leader.

I always use a leader with braid, not primarily for stealth or even abrasion but getting line tangled up in a treble hook.  Braid can be a nightmare to untangle, a leader is much easier IMO.  At present in my freshwater rotation are 4 different braids, 3 with slightly different shades of green and 1 orange, now faded some.  As far as color, I don't favor one over the other.  Some people prefer a more visible braid as they are line watchers, I am not.  I'm always looking around while retrieving to make my next cast, just the way I do it.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The idea is you tie your knot with the darker section and that'll keep the few feet by your bait the low vis color. If that's not enough darker colored line for you, you can color a few sections with permanent marker. You could also use a leader as so many do with braid. I don't know that it's really going to effect anything either way, but do whatever gives you confidence.

I use the tracer braid on all of my moving bait rods. Tie direct unless abrasion is an issue then use leader.

I use hi-vis yellow on all of my bottom lure rods (line watching important to me) but use a leader on the spinning rods. My jig rod I tie direct with the bright yellow and it seems fine. If I am concerned I will color the last few feet of line with a black sharpie or use leader.
