What's the best or more preferred way to fish a fluke? And how do you fish a fluke? I've not tried much only a couple of times but I'm really interested in learning more about them.

Best for me is mojo t-rig - very light (1/16-1/8); cast it to cover or over points, let it drop (maybe a foot, maybe to bottom....) and then twitch it back to the boat.  Easy to fish and very effective.  When I first picked up a bag of flukes many years ago I struggled with trying to rig them perfectly straight and make them swim in a straight line, upright.  I was frustrated and put them a way for years.  Once I learned that they aren't magic until they rock and twitch and sink that I learned to love them.

I personally fish a fluke weightless and erratic!!!! There should be a thread 101 ways to fish a Fluke, as there is about that many ways to!!

I like it weightless with a foot long leader on swivel to prevent line twist and a 3/0 or 4/0 ewg hook. I really like the strike king caffiene shad because it the best of a fluke and trick worm. Awesome action in the water and the heavy salt content lets it casts a country a mile and sinks at just the right speed. It caught me a lot of fish this past fall during the feed up.

I like to fish it weightless with a 4/0 hook.  I like to use spinning tackle and 6 lb test line for this application.

The type of plastic used by Zoom in general seems impervious to scent absorption. I've tried smelly jelly and pro cure and both seem to wash out pretty quick.

A lot of guys use megastrike goo, I use powerbait if I really feel the need for a scented bait, sometimes a garlic infused plastic.. Other than that I personally don't stress over scent.

i start with 4 basic retrieves and get creative from there.

1 gentle jerks on a slack line w/ short pauses

2 hard/erratic jerks w/ long pauses

3 constant gentle jerks

4 constant hard/erratic jerks.

 

i also play around with rod tip up vs. rod tip down.

rod tip up is def easier to play around with in shallow water.

rod tip down and longer pauses are def more beneficial in deeper water.

Weightless obviously is the popular choice but I like using a weighted hook, 1/8-3/8 depending on the speed I want to work it. The weighted hook keeps it from diving straight down (what you would get from t-rigging), and makes it swirl down.

 

And pearl is the only color you need. And some jj's chartreuse dye for the tail.

Fluke is my favorite bait, I fish it weightless with a very sharp hook rigged Texas style. I let it settle next to the target, then twitch it a few times on the way back. I reel in when it's 10-20' away from the target cover (heavy cover, shallow lakes). Watermelon red is by far my favorite color, but they bite other colors too.

I will do weightless as a follow up bait to top water strikes. I've also fished it on a carolina rig.

A fluke is the only bait I use when I'm fishing in vegetation, hooked weedless with no weight and I fish it as topwater lure.  As much as I use them for bass I use them them for snook and tarpon, generally on 1/4 oz jig head.  Fishing heavy seaweed in the surf I'll fish them weedless with a weighted hook.

Freshwater I use Zoom, salt it's DOA.

I like chartreuse jj's on the tail for scent.

Smart kid. That are great on a dropshot especially the junior size.

There isn't a better way to fish it than a slow retrieve, twitching it once or twice, followed by long pauses. They almost always hit on the fall.

Only way I fish with any kind of lure or bait, braid but I use a leader.
