I've read some posts on jerkbait fishing and most people throw them open water around schooling fish. I do this as well and it is very productive, but I also throw them next to trees and grass lines and even stumps and have even more success. I also throw them excessively on rock shore lines and bang them into the rocks. A lot of people say how you're not supposed to lose that many cause it's open water, but I go through quite a bit with where I fish them. Is this just me or are there other people who've had the same success I've had throw of them in cover?

I've had good success with them under the walkways of docks.

I only use sofy jerk baits weedles rigged but I throw them anywhere and everywhere,

yeah I'll throw hard jerkbaits over submerged grass or rocks, under docks, but not into the thick of things. I'll throw a weedless soft plastic jerkbait for throwing right into cover.

Did that today around some logs. Saw a 7 1/2 pound bass come up behind it. Caught her about 2 weeks ago, but this time; no luck.

I've thrown jerkbaits into timber before, however the aforementioned tree was up on shore and was not my intended target...

 

If I recall correctly, I believe guys were running jerkbaits down into the submerged treetops of Table Rock Lake last year in the Elite event won by Mike McClelland.

I throw jerkbaits in shallow beaver huts and such, and have yet to lose one.

i know that feeling, ive been trying to catch this 6 lb bedder for like a week now and it just will not bite anything i throw even though its just snapping up spawnings like a giant bowl of m&m's at a book club

Fishing them through and around cover is a great way to get bit but it's a good way to lose a bait too. I don't plan on owning a bait forever when I buy it, and I'd rather lose it to a fish than not catch anything with it.

Treble hooks around cover is a dangerous game but it's worth it! Jerkbaits have draw power so working them around the edges of cover will usually pull the fish out if they are in the mood to eat a jerkbait.

The best five fish limit I've ever had in my boat was from throwing pointers into grass and grasslines.

Go for the gold baby! If you're a jerkbait fanatic you put them wherever you think fish might be. I'm a fanatic. Sucks to lose one, but they make more!

I'll throw them over deep trees and around cover but I don't throw them into cover.   I'll use a sq bill or soft bait for that.  

If I can get a Hard jerkbait like the Long A or Bagley's Bang O Lure over weeds or structure, or through a lane in the hydrilla, under some overhangs, or in between some cypress trees, I take the chance of losing the lure as I prefer a floating hard Rip bait over a fluke most of the time, but if you are getting a lot of snags then it either needs some modifications, or just go with a soft version...However, you would be surprised where you can fish treble hooks when you really want to, and the fish rarely see it.
