Would be nice to see a bank fishing specific sub forum.

Why?

When you're drawing your bait from open water to the bank...it's really the opposite of boat fishing. Things like deep cranks dive into the mud and moss. Pitching/flipping jigs is much less doable than fishing something like a plastic parallel to the weed lines. Electronics are not applicable.

There are probably a hundred reasons bank fishing is totally different than boat fishing.

I mean sure....there are plenty of times when they cross over, but just as a friendly suggestion...it would be cool to see it here.

I park my boat right on the bank just to get that deep to shallow retrieve, at times it's way more effective than casting at the bank and pulling it out into deeper water. This is more of a individual thread type thing. We have long running threads for all types of stuff that are popular but don't really demand their own forum.

I think your appraisal is correct.

The activity for a bank fishing was not as overwhelming as some of the other sub forums, I do think it would be valuable asset to some of the fishermen.  IBFL, no reason not to let people voice their opinion, as long as there is no policy infraction.

Not at all. I generally cast as far as I can parallel to the bank and work it back to me.

Either way, I have to sort out so many boat specific answers... it's often useless.

Things like....when the bite gets tough....and people say something like "find some under water structure and___." Well guess what genius....I don't have sonar.

Or the suggestions of lures that easily get hung up on under water limbs and things...but hey it's not a big deal, just pull your boat over there and UN hang it....meanwhile, the bank fisherman just lost half his tackle...but what the Heck...I guess he found his under water structures now.

I fished out of a 2 man with no electronics for years and found all kinds of structure, a C rig, heavy jig, or deep crank were my depthfinders. Those baits can be fished from the bank as well, I used to catch a lot of fish on a C rig or cranking a deep crank uphill and digging it hard, you just have to develop the feel for when your bait is starting to hang so you can avoid really getting it stuck. 

 

Like I said in my first post, nothing wrong with a bank fishing thread or bank fishing tips thread, but it doesn't need it's own sub forum.

Guess what genius, I can find structure from the bank without sonar!

I don't care if you're in a boat or on the bank losing tackle is part of the game but so is selecting the right tackle for the situation!

Start a thread & keep it alive!

I started a Toledo Bend thread several years ago & there's one on the KC area just as old.

chelboed - you're from Lee's Summit  There are several bass clubs in and around Lee's Summit.   Some of them aren't all that expensive.   My advice would be to contact them and see if anyone in those clubs needs a co-angler.   There might be some geezer who needs help lifting and toting.  I don't know - just a thought.

 

If you are bank bound - the best new equipment investment you can make is a pair of hip waders.  Get you off the bank a little bit and allow you to parallel the weed lines - somewhat.

 

Other than that, my advice is learn how to fish texas rigged soft plastics.   Tx rigging with a slip sinker is just the beginning.   Figure it out.  If it was easy - everyone would do it.

 

Another option might be to go multi-species.  Bass aren't the only species that can be targeted from the bank.   Catfish - crappie bluegill are accessible as well.  If you want to catch big fish - research European style carp fishing.

There's lots of bank fishing areas around Lee's Summit. Look into a kayak and get out on Jacomo or Prairie Lee. Only thing I miss about having a johnboat instead of my Stratos is I can't fish Jacomo in my Stratos because of the size of the motor. 

I was a bank fisherman for a while. This forum helped me more than anything. You just have to think of the best way to do things for YOUR environment, same as boat anglers do.

Also, the best thing I did to help my bank fishing game was get a kayak! Haha
