Ok so I have a lot of reels. So far I have not found a baitcaster that can skip a soft plastic either weightless or light Texas rig without becoming s mess. My fishing partner uses an old curado that's beefed up a bit and can skip for miles. Maybe I've found reels that could do it but none that I am comfortable with. Any suggestions would be great.

So far I have all of the Revo series from the S to the Elite/Premier. No saltwater models. They just don't throw weightless well at all.

The sv spool from daiwa is supposed to be awesome for both skipping and casting lighter lures. It fits several daiwa reels

Not trying to be a smarty pants, but maybe it's you and not the reel.

BTW, I can't skip either but I ain't blaming my reels. I blame myself for not putting in the necessary practice time that is required to become proficient.

I can skip them with my Curados, B, E, or I. I only do it if I have to though, I'd much rather skip with spinning gear.

Can you skip the lures that you want to skip with your buddies baitcaster?

I want to get ceramics and a shallow spool. But I think I'm going to get an all new reel for it since most of mine are already set up. I want to order the Aldebaran 50. Japan tackle has them for 286 opposed to 419 at TW

Alphas SV would be a skipping machine for about $200.

The first thing to look at is your rod. Make sure it loads easily and generates the speed needed to skip. As far as the reel goes, a shallow light spool starts up easy due to it's low mass making it helpful to cast light lures. The trade off is that the spool holds less inertia and slows quickly when the bait hits to skip. I'd go the other way and try a tuned 200E or something like that. Even a Tuned 200B will spin forever when spooled.  Bearings aren't going to do anything for you in this case. A 5" Senko is not "weightless" by any stretch and doesn't require a finesse reel or anything special to cast.

Copy your buddy's rig, I mean sell off a reel or two if you need to, what's his rod? Copy his gear if its something your really wanting to do.

Its just an old curado and an original all star rod from when they were made in texas. I have a rod in the same exact action i can skip ok with. I just haven't found a reel that can compete. I fish in a club. Most of the guys are the ones who buy the best of the best but none of his is really new but it all functions flawless. I tried to talk him out of a few reels already... lol

i prefer to skip weightless with spinning also. I work at an outdoors shop and i'm sitting here building combos trying to find a reel i like. So far the curados are doing the best. 

I can skip with a BC all day long but its much more forgiving with a spinning rod.but im skipping tiny flukes and tiny brush hogs without weight so a BC wont work anyhow.
