Can't decide between these two rods.  Will be used mainly for light Carolina rigging and wacky worming.  Currently have Fenwick elite tech smallmouth rod for this that I love, but want variety.  Like Savvy mainly due to price, but are they equivalent rods?  Had to find much info and reviews on Phenix rods. 

I don't know anything about the Maxim, but if you have a ET Smallmouth rod you will not like the Saavy, the difference in sensitivity and feel is like night and day. The Saavy is a good line for moving baits but you don't want it for feel type presentations, if you want to go Dobyns for that go at least Champion level and leave the Saavy to moving baits.

Savy's are 160-180

Maxim's are 110-130

 

In that range there are a lot of choices.  I'd look at the new Elite Tech's from Fenwick, the New Crucial from Shimano, and the Daiwa Tatula as well.  The Tatula is a really nice rod.

I just ordered a savvy, hope I'm not disappointed, I think itll be fine.

I would also consider the Tatula, E6X, and Zodias rods if you have not already.

Just because it is rated lower doesn't mean it isn't some type of new manufacturing process/technology that could outclass the Savvy still. 

I would also consider the Tatula, E6X, and Zodias rods if you have not already.

The E6x is a great rod light & sensitive and there are lots of different models to chose from,

But the tatula and zodias rods are definitely worth trying.

I don't own a Phenix, but I do own a Savy 6'9" ML spinning rod. I bought it mostly for crappie/perch fishing, but I also use it for finesse bass/walleye fishing as well. This rod in particular is perfect for my use and I really enjoy this rod. They were smart enough to put the lure keeper down on the blank between the split grips, so that the line doesn't get wrapped around it in front of the reel. 

The Savvy is one of the worst lines of fishing rods ever made and I said a while back the Fury line would be below the savvy line and was blasted for it. The Savvy line SHOULD have been Dobyn's $99.00 rod line to begin with. The Fury line shouldn't have been made but in truth it wouldn't take much to be better than the Savvy line.

Either buy the higher up dobyn's or buy anything else over a Savvy.

Surprised to hear that the savvy is not that sensitive of a rod.  My ET rod is definitely the daintiest of my bass rods, very sensitive, but in weeds sometimes a little underpowered on hokset...it is a medium action, sometimes wish I would have went medium heavy.  Is a savvy a pretty small diameter rod like the ET?

If I had to choose between the Maxim and Savy, I would go Savy, I don't trust the proprietary reel seat thing on the Maxim.

I have owned a bunch of Phenix rods too and am a fan.

Savvy not sensitive...interesting that I win tourneys with it using it for finesse presentations...never moving baits

What is your issue with the reel seat?  Just not a fan or is there known issues?

It's all opinion. There's no way to measure sensitivity. If I'm researching something, why would I not want comment from both sides?

The Savvy is a great $100 rod. The problem is that it costs $180.

I've fished with my friend's 7' M Savvy before. Sensitivity was alright. Worth $150? That's for you to decide. I think they would be better priced around $100-120 dollars.
