7"10' Pole - Too Long?

Featured Replies

Yay, I just received another shipment of tackle w/o my wife seeing the delivery...

However, the most significant item of this order wasn't correct.   As I began pulling what I thought was a 7" Quantum KVD medium/heavy rod out of the 8" cardboard shipping tube, I realized I got more than I expected - 7"10' rod.  The 7" rod was intended for casting light plastics, drop shots and flipping into heavy cover - versatile.

Question - Is there a use for a 7"10' bait caster rod besides casting?

Quantum KVD - Medium Heavy; Line 12 - 25lbs; Lure 3/8 to 1oz.

What are the specs on the rod? I can think of a few different uses on a rod that length depending on what it's rated for.

Medium Heavy; Line 12 - 25lbs; Lure 3/8 to 1oz.

Its also labeled - SHL1 (?)

The reel I intend to use has 30lbs braid.

KVD Tour MH crankbait rod, that is what you have. Return it if you don' t need it!

You'll like it if you do a lot of deep crankin

Thank you all for the replies...

I just got back from a local pond to take the "tomato stake" for a spin.  It totally makes sense that what I have is a deep cranking rod ... I can see the extra foot being great for leverage to get a few feet deeper for those who can support an arsenal of a dozen+ poles.  Unfortunately, I'm not that guy and will be returning the pole for a more versatile length.

Thanks again for your replies!
