Power Pro Red Line Knot Issues

Featured Replies

The power pro I have used in the past is 50lb and it has worked great for me and never given me any issues.

For my deep divers I wanted to try some lighter line and wanted to see how the red looked in the water. I went with 30lb in the red. I tie all my braid with a Uni knot, fire line with either the improved clinch or Uni knot and nanofil with a double palomar.

Simply put the knots fail, lifting fish out of the water, gives up really easy on snags, 10 lb fireline holds better. Really bummed, because I have liked power pro in the past. Will stick with 832 and fireline in the future I guess.

I use the same line on my channel cat rods and have zero knot issues catching way bigger, stronger fish than any bass anywhere. Often hooking them in bad places where I have to horse them out too. You got a bad spool or something. I tie direct with mine using a palomar knot.

Don't think the dye should make any difference.  I pick up snook all the time with 20# PP off a sea wall, knot strength isn't a problem.  Knots aren't a problem using the same gear to catch tarpon, although I need net to land them.

It just may be the knot you are using.  Not saying my knots are the best but saying they work.  My joining knot is simple, 7-8 wrap Albright with zero down, I've landed 70# tarpon with it.  If I happen to be using a swivel I tie an improved clinch but with a second wrap.  My lure gets 2 wrap loopknot, and jigs and jig heads just an ordinary clinch.

I've been using Fireline since it first came out in the early 90's. I've tried PP and many other braid brands over the years as well. I've found no advantage to any other braid over the Fireline. Strong, easy to tie, and dependable. And the Crystal version is easy for even these old eyes to see. JMO. :)

I use PP pretty much exclusively for SW applications. I have not noticed any difference in knot strength between the green and red versions. I like using the red version of PP for fishing jigs on the bottom for redfish. I am a line watcher so it helps tremendously. I like Sirsnookalot use an  Albright knot to attach a leader to the braid. Only difference is I use 10 - 12 wraps instead of 7 or 8. Just a security blanket thing I guess.

Many years ago (when braid was fairly new) a bait shop owner on Cape Cod told me I could use any knot I used with mono as long as I doubled the line. It seemed to work well for me.

Thanks for the replies. I will go with it is a bad spool and put the 50lb power pro I took off back on the reel. I just liked the red color because it was really easy to see the line compared to the green that blends in with the river.

Only on spinning reels correct, or have you tried it on a baitcaster? All my spinning reels have fireline except one which uses nanofil. The pink fireline was really good stuff when it was out too, easier to see than the crystal.
