I just cannot believe with all the years of development of lubricating oils specifically for machinery like fishing reels that olive oil could be as good at lubricating a fishing reel as "fishing reel oil" by someone like Shimano. Just cannot believe it.

If you wrote that because I said extra virgin olive oil I was kidding and I would like to think you are also. I actually use rem oil usually or Lucas depending what I am oiling.

You got me!  I did think you were serious.  There just may be some folks out there in internet land that would do that, though.  

Lol. Olive oil is a stretch for sure, but there is nothing about a reel that requires any super special or advanced lubricant technology. it's a pretty basic environment and applicaction. 

Olive oil would probably work ok on the worm gear, lol. I'd want some bread, to dip, though.

I use a product called Break Free CLP for general maintenace for cleaning & lubricating the bearings, spool shaft and level wind worm gear etc.

I use the Shimano oil and the Reel Butter oil, the Shimano is a bit lower vis. if I'm not mistaken.

A lot of gun cleaners. Might want to be careful with those.

Lol it for sure would. I use that Lucas oil on the worm gear because its thicket. It would probabaly attract tons of dirt though so you better dip that bread quickly.

What about something like Hilco lube? I would think it should work pretty good and it is designed to handle high rpms and stuff. It's also dielectric so that's a bonus you won't ever need. Right after I posted on here I was using some so it made me think of it.
