Spro John Alternative?

Featured Replies

Hey all, as a HS student I don't really have the cash to drop $13 on a Spro little John, so I was wondering if any of you had any similar, tight wobble, 5-8ft depth crankbait that you like to use. I fish mostly in ponds with plastics and some shallow cranks, but I plan on hitting Candlewood Lake (in CT) soon so I want some deeper cranks then the 2-4 ft divers I have. Thanks!

I would use a Berkley Flicker Shad but if you are looking for the same profile as a Little John a Rapala DT Fat would be a great choice. Good Luck!

Those look sweet, but only dive to 3 feet unfortunately. Anything that goes around 7?

The Storm Arashi Deep is an amazing bait, if you work it slowly it should stay around 7 feet or so. the Rapala DT Thug is a good bait also. Neither of these share the profile of the John but they are both proven fish catchers.

You aren't going to find too many cheaper baits with that profile.  Check out the 6th Sense Crush Flat 75X.  It isn't much cheaper but it's similar in shape.  Also, the new Bill Lewis Echo 1.75 looks somewhat similar.  Neither of those baits are going to run 7' though.

$13 for a john? Wow.

Maybe 12 for the DD.

Bass pro has em 12.99, ridiculous. The Arashi Flat looks good and dives to 7. Looks like similar form factor. Opinions? I'm also going to pick up a Norman Flat N, and a DT-6

Check out tackle warehouse, they are cheaper on pretty much everything, it will help you stretch your budget.

Academy has a flat house brand bait. The Bandit Flat Maxx comes in a shallow and deep version.

Norman Middle N...... about five bucks. Catches fish. American Made.......
