What's It All Coming To?

Recommended Posts

The world seems to be going to hell in a hand basket. What will it come to? Are we Balkanizing America? Will there be a United States of White America, Black America, Hispanic America, etc.? I live in SC. I hate this for the families impacted and for our state. We always seem to be in the news in a negative way and the state is literally full of good and decent people.

I just wanted to get that out in a forum where people wouldn't jump down my throat for saying it.All I want to do is just go fishing. Maybe everyone should take up the hobby to fill their empty hours.

Evil has always existed in the world

it just takes sad reminders every now and then for us to realize this

the only way in the world to eliminate evil is for the good to stand together and not tolerate it

Balkanizing America? If anything we have attempted to become more unified over the years. The fact that we are in the south makes that hard to realize sometimes haha. It's not like that everywhere.

I for one am very thankful I have found fishing. I was quite a trouble maker until I was almost 20. I've always been into hobbies, but you can't find a hobby with a better crowd to influence you than fishing. Lots of good people in the fishing world.

With all the hopeless ignorance in this world, sometimes I really wonder how humans have advanced as far as we have.

Yeah, fishing is my outlet for everything. When you're on the water nothing else can bother you. Nothing matters except fishing. I've tried to explain how I feel about fishing to my wife and others who simply don't get it. They can't unplug themselves for hours like that. My wife asked me if I missed her and my daughter (if she doesn't go) when I'm fishing a long time and I have to say no, I don't miss anybody or anything. I can fish for 4 hours without a bite. Those hours just move me closer to the next bite. What you learn not catching is as useful as catching. The small ones just move me closer to a big one. When I feel that fish on the other end, I can forget EVERYTHING ELSE for a brief period of time. Man, what would I do if I didn't fish?

Well we can just go back to fishing or turn the TV channel or go play a video game and try and forget about the craziness or .. become more activist like the forefathers in the 1770s

When more people in this country stand up and take action then things will begin to change

The problem I see with that is this is a country moving away from individual liberties in the name of public safety (which won't work), handouts and entitlements. I am activist for freedom and liberty. But when every tragedy is used to attack the very second right enumerated in the Bill of Rights, I'm afraid our activism in this country is headed in the wrong direction.

Tragedy is inevitable. It happens everywhere, everyday... Just doesn't always make in on the national news. It's sad what the world has come to. What once was the "leave it to beaver" mentality where everyone is good until proven otherwise doesn't work anymore. Bad people walk among us and sometimes snap at the worst possible time.

You could take away whatever you want to take away but violence and tragedy will still happen. Look how many people are injured and murdered in prison... bad people improvise and do what they have to to accomplish their sick, twisted perversions.

Just reminds me to always tuck my kids in tight after saying our prayers, and hug/kiss them more everyday.

"Those who would trade their personal liberties for a sense of safety deserve neither." Benjamin Franklin

If the reports are true the gun used wasn't obtained legally, you cannot buy a firearm to give to or for someone else. More gun control laws will solve nothing, very few guns that are obtained legally are used in gun related crimes.

On another note this was truly a tragedy, my prayers are with the victims and their families.

Does anyone remember what the stated purpose of the NRA was when it was originally formed?

When you can find the answer for why their message changed, you will understand why these events will probably never end.

I have seen, but have not confirmed, that the young man bought his own weapon with money he was given for his birthday, lied on the background check application and it was not caught by State Law Enforcement Division. He had a record with at least 2 drug offenses and one trespassing with notice at a local mall. Also, he had no concealed carry permit. People who have a concealed carry permit in SC have been fingerprinted and had their backgrounds checked and approved by their county sheriff. It takes 90 days min and they really do the check.

Well, according to Wiki it was to improve accuracy of Union troops as they were inferior to the average Confederate soldier. If that's not the case, I want to know.

Here's the part where we go off the rails completely...the issue is not where or how he got a gun..but why he wanted and felt compelled to use it, that's the real issue.

Well guys, debating gun regulations and laws treads dangerously close "no politics" territory.

You can lock it or delete if you like. I was just feeling that I needed to vent in a non-political, anonymous environment because the rhetoric in SC was getting over the top.

Maybe he was mean and insensitive about others sensitivities
