Senko Or Power Worm

Featured Replies

I am wondering when you guys throw which technique. Are there certain conditions , times of year, times of day. Certain cover/vegitation.

I feel like they are different enough whete they each have there own time and place. I was just wondering if anybody had opinions on this.

Thanks for the help

I like senkos for pitching and worms for long cast dragging and hopping

If one doesn't work, I start using the other. I use them under the same conditions.

I usually fish power worms (and other ribbon tails) on the bottom with a texas rig around cover. I generally want to be on the move (but slowly) to keep the tail fluttering, with only fairly brief pauses...slithering up and around stuff, hopping up, and falling back down. With Senkos I go wacky or weedless/weightless for the slow wobbly fall, and I want to keep them falling as much as possible. I work them only enough to get them back up the water column a ways so they can fall again. I drop it into submerged weeds (especially cabbage), next to docks or skipped underneath, or twitched weedless across the top of lily pads and dropped into holes. Sometimes I'll just deadstick it as I drift over a submerged weedbed.

Unless you plan on eating either one, let the bass decide what they prefer to eat.

A Senko is a fall through the water column bait, vertical. A worm can be a vertical fall bait and a horizontal bottom bumping bait. I catch far more bass on straight tails then ribbon tails, both vertical and horizontal presentations.

Let the bass decide what they what.

PS, take a look at Upton's Customs 9" Aaron's Trajic worm for something new.

I use the senko just about anytime. I never use power worms.  I have personally never had much luck with them.   I do have great success with the rage tail worms.  I use the rage tail when I want fish a worm quickly and cover more water.

The fish really are the deciding factor. That being said, I tend to fish senkos around more shallow cover like docks and in between pads where as I'll throw power worms a bit deeper. They get the nod fishing deeper weed edges and stuff like that. Humps too!
