What is the best brand of braided line to get?

The two best I have found are Seaguar Smackdown & Daiwa Samurai. They run smaller diameter than most so the rated line test is much closer to breaking strength than most others. The best is not necessarily the strongest.

but I really like Power pro slick 8 and suffix 832

Power Pro Slick 8 and Daiwa Samurai braid are 2 of the best...

Just by the highest lb test of any of them and you'll have dang near the strongest. 65# ought to do.

Try some out and see which ones you like best. We all have our preferences. Original Power Pro works for me, so I stuck with it. I'll try 832 sometime soon.

Smackdown is my favorite because of how smooth it is and how strong it is with no coating.  The extra cost I find to be relative to it's benefits in my case, and I find it well worth it.    

 

 

SX1 and FX2 are the toughest I've ever seen (I'd lean SX1 for anything 30# or less, 40#+, I'd go FX2) but if you're running recoils it's extremely loud as they are a little more rough-textured.    

 

 

PP and 832 seem to me to be the most widely used, but I don't like 832 because of the waxy coating it has on it- it drives me nuts when I'm tying knots.  PP simply doesn't stand out in any way to me but honestly should always be on peoples' short list IMO because of it's low price and overall good behavior.

Recently switched from power pro to sunline fx2 and I love it.

Power pro for me I tried the suffix but the coating sucks, so I'm back using power pro

PPS8......I throw 15 lb...even in the slop.  I like to live on the edge!

"Strongest" and "Best" may not intersect.

 

I like PPS8 ok.  No complaints.

 

I don't see it mentioned here much, but I took a flier on Cabelas Rip Cord 8 during a sale over the winter and have been extremely pleased.  300yd for less than $15, IIRC.  Low noise, doesn't dig into itself like same size PP, and zero problems with knots, abrasion, etc.
