Yep, once you find crappie you can land a bunch.

Can you give info on your line, rod power/action, and reel you used? 

 

I've never personally used anything over 6 lb test mono for Crappie.  In my very, very, humble opinion even 6 pound mono is overkill for Crappie.

6lb is perfect as far as I'm concerned. Crappie in NJ can easily be over 2lbs and the state record is in the mid 4's. I knew a local cop when I lived there who caught it in a private lake.

We used to fill the bottom of a canoe when I was a kid at a local private lake with small rapalas and a couple split shot on the line to get a little depth in the spring when they would school up really heavy a couple weeks after ice out.

Don't try to catch them on 6lb around here. Better have braid and even the small ones you have to move quick.

But that's what telescopic long poles are for

9' of water under that pile with holed barely big enough to pull a crappie back through and those trees behind it are out to 35-40' of water, I'd love to see someone longpole that stuff

I'm sure some crappie pro's could do it.  Certainly not with 6 lb mono though.

As for me?  Nope I wouldn't even try

I never go below 6 lb. line.  You never know when you might catch something bigger than a crappie.
