Yo-Zuri Vs Other Fluorocarbons?

Featured Replies

I've noticed yo-Zuri is extremely expensive compared to other fluorocarbon line. What is the reason for this?

Yo-Zuri is Inexpensive!

at least you posted in the right sub-forum. That should count for something.

Yozuri isn't a fluorocarbon it's a copolymer. And compared to other copolymers (CXX, Izorline, Mccoy) it is priced very similar.

YoZuri Hybrid is ---------> Hybrid !

FC + nylon

Priced similar to other hybrid lines and quite inexpensive.

Wrong....Yo-Zuri is a hybrid of mono/FC co extruded. P-Line FluoroClear is another hybrid for example.

Copolymers are a blend of 2 Monofilaments.

He could be talking about Yo Zuri HD Leader?

I bought yo-zuri fluorocarbon line for less than 12 dollars

Are you talking about the yozuri floro leader?

It is actually more than half the cost of most FC.  It is pretty good line though.  I like the 10lb and 12lb for most baitcaster applications.  Take a look at Tackle Warehouse's website for comparisons to other lines.  They will also give you a good description on the line itself.

Might want to visit the link and see how Yo-Zuri describes what their product is.  http://yo-zuri.com/series/line/

Also, copolymer line is not a blend of 2 Monofilaments, it is a blend of multiple monomers(as in can be many more than two).  Monofilament is a any line that is single stranded and does not refer to the chemical composition of the line.

Co-polymer blend of polymers with FC isn't a co-polymer line, it's a hybrid!

Most mono is made from Nylon, a polymer polyamide not a monomer.

The thing that Yo-Zuri does with their line is under state the tensile strength, labels 0.011 diameter line as 8 lb, both Sunline and Seaguar rate their FC with 0.011 as 10 or 12 lb line.

Name the monomers!

I will choose to listen to the MFG.  They describe the line as a 50/50 Copolymer.  You can call it what you like.

Mono is a generic term used in fishing, Mono means single, technically FC is a monofilament line.

It takes monomers to create polymers and the word  poly means many -  Not two as you used incorrectly in your original post, much the same way you incorrectly stated that copolymer lines were created from two monofilaments.

There a literally thousands of different monomers, line mfg's choose blends of monomers to create copolymer lines with the specific characteristics that they want.

You seem like a knowledgeable guy, you just misstated some of your original post.

Sometimes it's necessary to communicate at a level of comprehension. Yo-Zuri Hybrid line is not a copolymer in the since of blended Nylon polymers being a co-polymer monofilament line. Yo-Zuri is a co-extruded monofilament line having a Nylon core with Fluorocarbon outer extruded jacket, the name hybrid comes from that process verses co-polymer blend.

You want to give me a tutorial on polymer science, consider this; my career field, now retired, was director of R & D for a aerospace manufacturer of composite products and fairly knowledgeable in this field.

This thread got interesting, lol.

And Hybrid is very inexpensive compared to anything other than mono. As for performance, it's # test rating is considerably lighter than it's diameter and true tensile strength. ( or basically it's 8lb test line is thicker than standard 8lb test with the strength of 12lb test)

Also, it's ridiculously durable. It has great knot strength and is ridiculously abrasion resistant. It tends to be a bit stiff (line conditioner may remedy this some), but it makes for a great leader around the nasty stuff (rocks, shells, trees, etc).

I've been using Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft and that stuff ain't expensive. Give it a try, it's right up there with Mean Green (McCoy)

you guys are talking about 2 different lines made by the same manufacturer , Hybrid & 100 % flourocarbon .....
