Baitcaster On A $175 Budget

Featured Replies

Hey guys just wonderig what would be a good baitcaster for $175 or less?

Revo SX, Revo S, Curado I, Citica, Casitas, ect....

Curado I all day on e bay. Still enough money to buy some line, too

I'd say any reel at that price.  The Lews BB-1 Pro LH is on sale at TW for $3.88 over that price.  The Tournament Pro was on sale elsewhere for $140.  Don't know if the sale is still on.  Imagine Okuma Helios and Komodo can be had for that on fleabay.  Pflueger Supreme XT or Patriarch, Daiwa Tatula or Tatula Type R, Curado 200I, *** are a few.  I got the Pinnacle Primmus for just under $157 shipped and am really liking this reel.

Throw in the used reel market and there are a lot more options.  Too many to list, but I love my Alphas and Curdo 201E I bought used.  Scorpion isn't bad either.  :teeth:

If I had $175 to spend on a baitcaster I would go to ebay and buy a Curado I, or a Tatula R.

Can't comment on the Curado, but I got my Tatula R last winter off a regular site for about $131 if I remember correctly.  Awful hard to beat this reel at that price.

Lots of Shimano fans here.  I'm one myself, but when it comes to throwing lighter weights, I do better with Daiwas.

I tried to fight the Daiwa vs Shimano fight for a short time, being a Daiwa guy from way back, but I realized that I love both brands.  Now, all my reels are one or the other and I couldn't be happier.  Best of both worlds.

I own the Curado I and the Tatula R and really enjoy both reels.

Curado I

I'm a Daiwa guy, so I have to say a Tatula or Tatula Type-R.

I was thinking a daiwa or the *** but now everyone is saying shimano might have to take a look at those too

I have the Curado I and the ***. Both are awesome reels. The curado can be had for 129 and if you play sales and coupons then you can get the concept at probably 145. I would absolutely love another *** but wouldn't turn down a Curado. One consideration is line capacity for the Concept. Personally I don't mind the smaller capable some may. It can be upgrades to a larger spool but that would cost I think 30 more.

See i was thinking 100 yds is plenty of line. If a LMB spools me of 100 yds i might need to give up just my thoughts though

Ooh, man. Not too hard for me. I'd look for a Chronarch 50e

on eBay....

For me it's hard to beat an original Zillion. I've seen them go anywhere between $150 and $220. There are plenty in pretty good shape in your price range. Just a thought.

I would go with the Lew's Mach 1 (spend the $ you saved on a better handle).

But if you're looking to throw stuff a little bigger I would go for the Lew's BB2 Pro Wide Speed Spool.

I actually don't own either one of these reels, but IF I were to buy a reel today, it would be very hard to turn these two down.

Tatula and down payment on a rod.

The normal tatula?

Lews Tournament Lite can be had for $140 at American Legacy Fishing. If you can spend a little more the same site has the Lew's Team Lew's Pro Speed Spool On sale at $200 marked down from $300.

I got good deal on a Type R and live it. But I have read nothing to indicate that I wouldn't be very near as happy with a 'normal' one

I have both.  Like the looks of the R better and its faster ratio (got the 8.1:1).  Other than that I see no difference.
