Megabass Pop Max : Direct Tie Or A Swivel?

Featured Replies

I was at Dicks last night and picked up a Pop Max from Megabass. I want more already :)

It's an awesome looking popper but I'm not sure what the best way to tie it on is for optimal action. I watched a You Tube video and the guy had it tied with a swivel attached. It was a long video and I didn't listen to all he had to say and don't recall hearing why he used the swivel.  I have not and do not use them for jerkbaits or cranks or anything else but I know plenty of guys that do.

Any preferences are good arguments for doing this rather than direct tie to the bait?

Experiences you have had with the bait?

Thanks guys

Direct. I slay them with it. Only color I have is white Python, because I dig it.

Seems like a lot of people like either White Python or their Bass color.

I use mine with a snap, because i change baits fairly often. If they are committed to a popper, then i tie direct. I use the pumpkinseed and black orochi colors.

I'd tie direct with a Rapala loop knot.

Do you mean a clip?

Megabass Pop Max has a high line tie design to increase the spitting / gurgle action, any added weight will affect the lures action.

I'd tie some kind of loop knot.  Years ago, I was at a BASS seminar at the Springfield, MO BPS.   I asked one of the presenters - Shaw Grigsby - what knot he used to tie for poppers.   He said to use a King Sling.   I think it is a decent knot and relatively easy to tie.  If you want a fairly small loop, you've got to pay attention.

I've found this popper walks easier with tight knot. That's not true with other poppers.

I picked one up a few weeks ago an DSG. They for sure walk like crazy and that is one of te thing I really like about it.

I don't ever tie a lure to a swivel. I attach everything with a snap and my pop max walk, pops, and wakes just fine with it.

Thanks guys, great information here. I'll tie direct since this seems to be productive. I did buy the white python and it's a pretty sick looking popper. Can't wait to get it out and see how it performs.

I think most people have bass and white python because those are the colors dicks carries. I almost bought the cicada one from bps, and I think I'll be going back for it because I'm starting to hear a lot more of them out lately...

I was killing it on one today. Fishing it through a bunch of spotty grass anb mats. Change the hooks out to weedless wacky hooks and game on. It goes anywhere now.

I have both colors and they have been great for me.  I also have one that is black with blue bottom, it is a great bait as well.

As far as a swivel goes, don't use em.

Well due to this post I just went out and bought a White Python. I saw them before and just didn't want to spend a dub on one, but I finally did. Hope it works as well as everyone says!
