What To Use To Wipe Down Exterior Of Reel?

Featured Replies

I've been using Real Magic to wipe down the exterior of my reel to keep it clean (spraying it into a shop rag and wiping the reel down). I just wanted to make sure that was ok or if there is something else I need to use instead.

I just use a disinfectant wipe and then a Q-tip with a little rubbing alcohol to clean places I can't wipe such as the line guide.

Q tip and i use Line And Lure

WD-40.  Saw it on Youtube so it must be right!

Wd 40 should only be used in the garage and thats only if u dont have other REAL lubes.

I wipe my reels down with the lamentations of the fish driven before me.

It's KVD Line and Lure for me.

The only problem with the L&L is that no one sells it local. I've looked everywhere. Every store that sells fishing tackle, I've looked at. I just found my first jar of JJ's Magic to try yesterday.

Sorry, I did not know he was asking about lubes.  I thought he was asking about something to wipe the outside of a reel with. Silly me!

Lol all good but most ppl think of wd40 as a lube/penetrate/ etc .back in the day thats all we used now there is so much better stuff.wd40 selling point is that wd40 name sure aint what it can do it works in a pinch but it dont mix with fishing at all.its petroleum based

My reels don't get broken down, I do oil the handle bearings, spindle and line roller bearing.  I spray the exterior of the reel with spay silicone.

I use a dry shammy cloth cleaner to wipe the reel then I wipe it with a shammy  sprayed with 2 -3 sprays of shimano oil.

I was referring to wiping down the exterior of the reel. When I decide to get it serviced it will be taken to a professional. I'm just asking about for the body of the reel, what would be good to use for keeping it clean and making it look new for a longer period of time.

Shamwow all day...

Not really. Just a clean, damp rag if they really need it between the deep cleanings.

I use the tears of newborn bass after they watch me drag their mother away.

I use Rem Oil personally. Good stuff, readily available.

I just use a wet soapy rag.  I even wax my rod n reels, but I'm ridiculous don't be like me.  Some may say "anal"
