I recently cracked the end of my rod right above the rod cap. Now the rod butt is basically breaking off. How would I go about attaching the end of my rod back together without causing anymore cracks that may lead up towards the reel seat? I was thinking about cutting a piece off of an old fishing rods and inserting it into the breakage, wrap the area in some sort of thread, and epoxying it. Hopefully someone can chime in on a method that may help keep the area structurally sound as I don't want the rod to fall apart.

I haven't tried doing something like this before, so what kind of glue or bond should I use when trying to insert the rod piece into the breakage? Also should i be using a specific rod thread or would any wrapping do to secure the cracks? I just want to make sure I am using the right stuff to piece this rod together...

You have the right plan. A 30 or 5 min epoxy adhesive is what we'd use. Rod building thread will be easiest to work with, but nylon thread from the sewing dept will work if you finish it with urethene instead of epoxy. Urethene is a lower build and it will take a few coats to get a gloss look if that's important to you. The urethene is something you may have around already and may be easier to work with for you. 

This is a good example of how poorly some factory rods are built.  Not knowing all the details, and whether there is any structural integrity left , it's hard to recommend a fix other than taking all the loose parts/cork I presume off and putting on a new grip.  However, if you think it can be made structurally sound, glue everything back together as best you can then wrap the whole grip with one of the new Winn Grip tapes, a tennis racquet grip tape (cheap at tennis pro shops/clubs/etc), or bicycle handlebar tape.  Any of these tapes will help hold the thing together and provide a tacky grip.

I realized the hardest part is finding something that would actually fit tightly in the breakage. The old rod I was meaning to cut down to put inside, is actually too small. Any tips on where i can get carbon fiber for cheap or is there other alternative materials I can just stick inside for a strong foundation?
