What is up with companies not having a left handed model in every gear ratio?! So far, besides the Orra Winch, I can't find a reel with a lower gear ratio in a left handed model

Daifa always has every model in both versions, lefty and righty. I don't know about other brands than Shimano and Daiwa because I don't care about other brands.

Just a much smaller market for LH retrieve baitcast reels so not all companies will make all reels available in RH and LH.  Even a lot of smaller local tackle shops won't stock LH retrieve reels, but, if the manufacturer makes it and you can wait, they can order it for you.  Check a manufacturer's website to see if they make a LH retreive version, then ask a local shop to order one if you can't find it online.

no, Daiwa has stopped offering power ratios in lh retrieve. I don't see the point, anyway. I tried the lexa p model and found it much too slow. 6.3:1 is as low as I go.

I still can't figure out why righties want to palm the reel and control the fish with their weak hand. To me palming the reel with my strong hand is much more comfortable and i don't have to switch hands mid cast. The ONLY downside is that the handle can get in the way while flipping, but I'd rather pitch, anyway, and that's where a lh reel shines most of all.

Its a tough world out there for us. My one and only LH bc reel broke 3 months ago at the beginning of the spring summer bass season, so I've had to relearn how to fish with RH reels.  Now, I have no preference for baitcasters, so thats nice and all! But if I want a LH, to the internet I go

Rookie question, but how does one palm a left hand reel if they cast with their right hand?

 

With a right hand reel, one casts with their right hand, or both, then places their left hand on the reel (palming it) and then reels with their right hand. In a left hand situation, they cast with their right hand, or both and reel with the left. If you want to palm a left hand reel, how do you get your right hand from the casting position to the palming position? 

I cast two-handed, so since my left is already grasping the butt of the rod I can shift my right into palming the reel. I guess when I pitch I just grab the rod butt with my left after I flick the bait put there and move my right up.

its not just reels, i am a lefty and have been struggling with it my whole life with guns and bows. most companies charge at least $100 more for left handed guns. i feel like i am in heaven when buying reels though because right hand reels are perfect for lefties..haha...soooooo many choices!

Shimano citica 201G5 is low gear ratio. I have problems finding 7:1 in left in my price range

Right. That's one reason I love Tatula rods so much. You get a split grip, but the butt grip is contoured and very comfortable, yet solid, so it feels very natural to grab when casting and on hook sets. Plus, with a T3 reel, it's very easy and natural to re-engage the clutch and palm the reel in one fluid motion. That's just how i roll, lol. Maximum efficiency.

If your savy you can regear a lefty for power. Lews speed spool lefties with 6.4 or 7.1 can be regeared with abu winch, orra or BP gear sets. The new Abu gen 3's can be regeared with the toro gear sets.

 

I geared an SX to 5.4:1 with the toro gears. I tried the 4.6:1 winch gears first, But a bit too low for my taste. I also upgraded the braking to IVCB-4
