My dad has an Ardito TR that became a 2-piece rod (lol). I can't twist it nor pull it apart. I don't know how hard my dad pushed the second piece in, but it won't budge. Are there any tricks to separating these? Like using some kind of lubricant or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this happen. Sit in a chair and put the rod behind your calves with your legs together. Grab each side and spread your legs apart and it should pop free. If that doesn't work, it must be really stuck.

You, sir, are a freaking GENIUS! It popped out in one try. I'm so glad I finally decided to ask here. It was driving me nuts!

No problem. The reason i knew is because i had the same thing happen about a month ago. 

If that had not worked, or if anyone has a similar experience, the most reliable way is to use ice at the ferrule. Try to rotate as you pull.  The ice shrinks the wall thickness of the blank increasing the ID of the female ferrule and usually relieves the sticking problem.  Believe it or not.

I use a jigsaw for my shoelaces..need to be precise.

Never had it happen but some good tips there.

I haven't asked him, but when I borrowed it, it felt like a 1-piece. Pretty good rod, IMO.

Thays funny cause I have glued numerous 2 piece rods together. It get annoying when they twist or start coming apart from fishing of whstever.

A tip some of our "newbies" may not know:  If multiple piece rods are properly designed and built, and if the sections are put together properly, they should not come apart during fishing.  The proper way to put the sections together is to push the sections together, and just before they finally seat, rotate the section you're adding about a 1/4 turn as you finish the "push."  .  On taking them apart, reverse the process.  It is best to not add any lubricant, wax, anything to the surfaces.

Any fly shop, online or brick & mortar, should have something called ferrule wax. I've used it for years on my fly rods; both to keep it together and lined up while fishing, and to facilitate taking it apart when finished. Never had a problem when using this stuff, and I've bought and used several different brands. They all worked just fine.

 

Mick, I'd be interested to hear why you do not recommend ferrule wax. Not bustin yer chops; just curious.

Well that is good to know for sure. The only rods I ever really even used that are a 2 piece are nothing special to begin with. It's also only ever a spinning rod. I don't even own a 2 piece rod that I would ever use except for a ultra light rod that I actually really like cause it's a 6'6" but still kinda a cheap rod.I guess some fly rods also but those haven't been touched in ages.

Spray wd40 into were the peices meet. Then grab the top part by the guide and try to twist it. Be careful and dont bend the guide but youll get it

The experts on Rodbuilding.org forum maintain that one should never put WD40 or any other lube on a ferrule.  The ferrule in question has been freed, and two good methods suggested that should work without compromising the performance of ferrules that need to be freed in the future.  

I never added anything to my two piece rods. Just keep the joints clean as possible and don't force them to seat all the way.

I keep an Ardito in my truck for those 'ooohhh loookie, water...' moments.  It's not as sensitive as my *** or Abu Villain, but handles about everything I've used it for quite well. Seanzky's right, it feels like a 1 piece rod. 

 

It's typical Diawa fit/finish/quality: well worth it.
