I have a vendetta MH 7' rod for flipping/pitching jigs into all kinds of cover. I bass fish with 3/8 and 1/2 jigs. I've heard that MH vendettas run like a heavy. Is it true? It looks pretty skinny compared to other heavys too. What would you guys do. Take the H or MH

Take them both, find out what they're best suited for. Use them accordingly..

Rod thickness doesn't indicate rod power, except maybe in low end rods. I only have Vendetta spinning rods but I feel like they fish pretty true to their ratings. I'd still take both but I usually have about 30 rods in the boat at all times. 

The problem lies in the manufacturer, some choose 1/4-3/4oz as a medium heavy and others choose 1/4-1oz. Abu goes with 1/4-1oz for MH which would act like others heavy

I suppose the best way to overcome the weight rating

fiasco the builders have created is to find a rod builder you

like and buy the entire line of rods. We can then decide

which rod for which bait and bait weight...

Or encourage a local shop owner to pick a brand and

stock/display the line so we can get a look and feel then have him

order our choices.

Imagine if car dealers sold cars based on mileage ratings of Far, Mod Far and extra Far. How far is far? You'd ignore the classification and just compare MPG. which in and of itself may or may not actually happen in use. Just don't get hung up on subjective labels. Look at the lure weight range and just be aware of manufacturer suggested  uses. Handle them at a store if possible (tset drive) and when in doubt check in here (Car & Driver reviews). There's almost always someone with hands on opinon. At the end of the day everyone is different and the only true test is to fish a rod. Even if it felt good at the store, on the water may be a whole new story in either direction.

I have a medium power Vendetta casting rod (1st generation), it isn't a bad little rod but it is rated 1/4oz to 5/8oz but I can fish 3/4oz but going above that is pushing it and I find that to be in line with the medium rating as there is no industry standard. The reason you heard that the rods have more power is because the action are faster and the rods don't use a soft tip, they are quite stiff. So go by what the label says and you'll be fine. As for using the MH or H, that would be what you need to figure out, if you can fish the jigs you use now in cover and it is working then stay MH but if you feel you need a bit more then go with the heavy.

If I told you what I wanted in a rod build you will most likely misinterpret what I say. I know that's happened before. Then we have a problem.

At least with TW for some shipping cost we can eventually get it right.

Granted, doing things online presents challenges. A competent builder will ask a lot of questions and make their best suggestions. Personally, I'll take a rod back if it's not what was expected as long as it's not way out of common parameters ( hasn't happened yet). For an over the counter purchase, the TW test drive deal is nice.
