I'm looking for a hook keeper I can add to my rods to hold Texas rigs. I don't want to pull the hook out of the plastic and tear it up, so I need a keeper that's more of a "hook" than a "loop", if you see what I mean. I saw these, but I've only seen them extended towards the rod tip with the hook in the small hole in the plastic. Do these work for Texas rigs, and if not can someone recommend a keeper to me? Thanks!

Those work fine, but you do have to expose the hook point to use it. Sounds like you're referring to a drop shot style hook keeper. Which is my preference also since it's simple to use for every type of bait. I wish all rods had them on it. If you search for a rod builder near you they could add one to any rod and it wouldn't be that much.

One like this is great for many applications.

I 100% agree. There is no reason to not out that on every rod. They are so superior to any other keeper. If my rod doesn't have one and almost all don't I just ass one my self realy quick. All you need is a paperclip and some tape and you can make it happen super easy. If your all worried about your setup looking flawless then that's not for you.

I like the ones st.croix uses on the MOJO rods! Why they don't use those on every rod I'll never understand.

That is crazy!  I do exactly the same thing and it looks identical!  Thought I was the only one!  Works great!  I use the plastic coated paper clips.

I remember looking at some cabelas brand rods a few years ago. They had that style hook keeper but they were on upside down!

My Abu rods have them.  And I've learned why not all companies want to copy.  When you're flipping or picking out 'professional overruns', the slack line between the reel and the first guide can, at times, get caught up in there.  My Okuma TCS has it down near the rear grip so it doesn't get in the way....unless you grab the working end of a hook when grabbing the handle to take the rod out of the truck.

They are stamped like a guide, not bent wire.

 

I used those original DSWK's when I first started building.  I thought they were great til people started returning rods because they rusted.  They replaced the ones on the rods that came back rusted, but wouldn't replace the unused ones I had in inventory.

OK, from that angle they are different. Looked just like them in the first picture.

They're great! Almost wish all my rods had no hook keepers just so I could use these on all my rods!

You can still easily add one if you wanted. All you need is a paperclip and some tape to make a really quick one. That is if you not worried about having a piece of tape on your rod. On one rod I actually wrapped one myself so there is no tape. I never wrapped anything before so used a old rod to test on and I wrapped it 10# braid cause it's what I had handy.

Yup, that's my favorite hook keeper. I think they should just stop wrapping keepers on all rods because if they are ahead of the reel, your line gets caught in it. EZ keepers can be placed between the split grips so they're completely out of the way.

ANY drop shot keeper will do what you want, allow the control of the lure without exposing the hook point.
