Has anyone else seen this reel or had experience with it? Came out at iCAST from Daiwa this year. Has 12 ball bearings, an aluminum frame, and no T wing system (which some may like). Also comes in 8.1:1 gear ratio and can be had for $99.99. With those specs, this reel seems like it has gone under the radar so far.

Could be a few things, many Daiwa fans don't feel like this reel is worthy of the name Fuego.  Many others just don't care for the size and form factor of the Tatula based reels.

I don't know why anyone would say they aren't "worthy of the name." I haven't even heard of anybody who's used them (except Daiwa workers of course). Never head anyone say that.

4 more ball bearings, $30 cheaper (retail-wise), and different color scheme. It's a lot more difference than Shimano has in their Curado and Citica I.

I'm thinking of getting one, I have a tatula, it's OK but I think I'd prefer the standard line guide. I also see on ebay a new daiwa sol also based on the tatula, from Australian sellers.

see, that doesn't even make sense. A sol should be an alphas variant, right? Who knows. They just throw names around at Daiwa.

Have you ever had the opportunity to use the original Daiwa Fuego?  It was a magnesium reel based on one of Daiwa's most successful platforms ever, the TDZ.  It is much the same as Daiwa also calling the Aus version of the Tatula the Sol.   Both of the original reels deserve better, IMHO.

I have not used the original Fuego, and I understand that it was probably an awesome reel. Although it has the same name, it's a totally different reel now. I just wonder how it will hold up.

I would guess it will be a good reel, the Tatula has been a solid reel aside from the grooving on the t-wing, which obviously wont be an issue with the new Fuego.   Especially at the price you will be able to pick one up for.

You're right if they're in the handle, then it's pretty lame. I was hoping they'd be supporting the spool. Right now you can get the Fuego and Tatula for the same price so I might grab a Fuego. Not a huge fan of T Wing.

That's the thing, if a company omits bearings in the handle & worm gear, oft times they are ridiculed. If they add them, oft times they are ridiculed. Go figure..

It does have bearings supporting the spool shaft. The reel wouldn't work without them. You can instantly add 2 bearings to any Daiwa reel with removable knobs. Then you can add 1 to the levelwind. The Tatula you can add 2 to the levelwind. It's marketing 101. Make people feel like they're getting more for less.

That's what sucks about it.  Companies, especially Daiwa, will put 12 bearings in their $100 reels but not in their $200+ reels.   They should be standard across the board if they're going to put them in their cheap reels.

Where can you get this reel for $100?  They MSRP at $129.99 I think.  I saw some on ebay for $116 but none anywhere for $99.99.  The new Fuego spinning reel carries a price tag of $99.99 though.

Then you have reels that retailed for $400 like the px68 or og zillion that don't have a worm gear bearing. That part I'll never understand. It's a cheap part that you'd think would come in a reel with that price tag. Though I don't feel it's a major upgrade over the bushing after doing it to over a dozen reels it would still be nice for it to be standard. Keeps me from having to tear all my reels apart and adding the bearing to them. It bothers me knowing it could have one in there just in case there is a small possibility of it improving the reel.

There's an Ebay store called "sportsmansoutfitters" who is selling all the baitcasting models at $100.

x2. Sometimes Daiwa does things that makes zero sense. That's why I usually lean towards Shimano now. I don't even mess with Lew's, Abu, etc anymore though. <-- But there are some good reels in their lineups.

It's just that it's easy to add them yourself. It's a pain, yeah, but at some point you'll be tearing that reel down, anyway, so throw them in there then. A tatula is potentially a *** reel. Does it need all those? Probably not. Will I throw them in, anyway? You bet I will.

Not all bearings are the same as I'm sure you guys know. You can have twelve cheaper bearings in one reel that 4 good bearings in another outdo.

I´m as much as a Daiwa fan as a Shimano fan and at some point I would choose Daiwa over Shimano in an eye blink but Daiwa has in my book more Hall of Shamers than Shimano,  Daiwa many times goes "too innovative" and many times does things that make no sense whatsoever, ex: they make a great reel and place a bushing instead of a bearing somewhere it would be beneficial like in the worm gear ..... what da ,,, ?   .
