Skeleton seats are not for everyone but certainly have their fans. There's nothing to gain by shedding such a small amount of weight in the least critical spot on a rod by splitting a seat. It's totally about the feel and comfort, or lack of depending which side you're on.

It must really depend on the size of your hands and how you hold the rod, because I have no problems with it either. I actually really like it.

ACS for life!

I really like the SK2 and the ACS, surprisingly the ECS is the sore spot for me, I know, I'm in the minority. I have large hands and the ECS has a long, wide trigger, it is fine if I'm fishing jigs and worms but chucking blades or cranks all day would leave my hand swollen and sore between my middle and ring fingers and that leads me to this. I palm my reel with the little finger behind the trigger and when I cast I have my index finger and middle finger in front of the trigger and my ring and little finger behind the trigger, so when I make the trigger rotates between my ring and middle fingers and if the trigger is wide it constantly rubs in that area until my hand hurts. The ACS sort of locks my fingers in one spot so that the trigger doesn't rotate and the same thing for reel seats that have a deep curve but the old ECS was a killer and the new skeleton reel seats have been a God send to me.

If you found s rod you liked with the exception of the reel seat

that being the ECS you could do a little sanding and then use a

3m finishing pad on the trigger.

On the other hand the SK2 leave you with nothing to work

with.

My daughters barbie pole with the spincast is the most comfortable I've held ever.  10X better then ECS, TCS, ACS, SK2, Stealth Reel Seat and ITS. ​

Sure. With so many options to choose from on a ground up build I don't really need to though. They sand easily. Just go slow to avoid the "I cut this twice and it's still too short" scenario.

I did a bit of sanding on my Lews rod reel seat after the cork grip

was installed. I taped off the cork and went at it slowly. It was easy.

That's pretty close, the one I like has a hollowed trigger.

I trim the threaded part of the barrel so there are almost no exposed threads when the reel is mounted. That's for comfort. I see no point to any other modification.

 

People have been modifying reel seats to shave weight. The seat area is the one place on a rod where weight changes, either additions or subtractions, make no difference at all.

 

Give me a comfortable rod that weighs a few grams more.

 

I don't like the SK seats, nor do I like the Minima seats. I like ECS seats, and don't mind ACS seats. I have a personal build in progress right now with an ALPS TexTouch seat. I had to trim some threads, but otherwise I really like this one so far. It's like an ACS, only more comfortable in hand. It weighs a bit more than an ACS, but feels better.

trimming the threaded barrel so when my reel is tightned down so no threads are showing is a must !!

Interesting for sure. I never realized that there were so many different reel seats. Guess I

never really paid any attention. Not surprising then, that there are so many different opinions.
