Why do most spinnerbaits and Buzzbait have the open loop tie setup? What does the open "U" shape loop really do?

Since I use the ball bearing locking snap swivels only I'm limited as to what spinnerbaits I can use. I never seen a closed loop Buzzbait.

So what's the advantage of the open loop tie on the spinnerbaits and buzzbaits?

Fishing in the dark I have a hard time tying knots.

Basically, that open tie set up is easier to manufacture than the closed loop.   However you can make any open loop spinner bait/buzz bait a closed loop using any number of methods.  A small piece of aquarium tubing,  strategically wrapping a little bit of wire or even a few wraps of braid can seal off the open loop and make it closed.

 

There are closed loop buzz baits out there - look harder.   They're more popular in the northern states where wire leaders are used.  Like I mentioned earlier, just close off the loop.   A short piece of fine gauge wire should work.  

 

Ball bearing snap swivels on spinner baits & buzz baits?  You're probably costing yourself some fish over the season with the unnecessary hardware.    Darker stained/ muddy waters it probably isn't an issue.   In clearer waters, I think it might be.  Spinnerbaits and buzz baits don't really twist your line all that much, why is a swivel necessary?

I think the open end allows the bait to spin around the knot without it wrapping around the wire. They tend to tumble and spin around when cast. Try a small oring over the end and then snap on if you must use one.

Most will tie direct To a spinner or buzzbait. The twisted line tie tears up your line when it wraps around. Dsg had an exclusive booyah SB with such a tie. There was one color I really liked. But man you had to retie that thing every 15 minutes.

What knot do you tie? I can tie an open arm spinnerbait or buzzbait with a palomar knot in the dark way faster than I could find a closed eye with a snap.

I can't see it in the dark either but I can feel it and a palomar is super easy to tie even when I can't see the line. 

I purchase all Mann's classic spinnerbaits with the closed eyelets. Some of the smaller sized spinnerbaits have closed eyes too. Why can't all the spinnerbaits have closed eyes.

instead of trying to find alternative, you can wrap some fishing line around the back of the "U" bend, super glue it in place and close it up so you can use snaps.
