Plastic Shad Raps

Do you find yourself throwing #5 (2") or #7 (2 1/2") plastic Shad Raps to your smallmouth?

I have the best success with a #5 with a few suspend dots to make it a slow riser.

You must be talking about the Shad Rap RS. I was thinking of the Glass Shad Raps, which are floaters.

Yes, the RS model... I don't know anything about the glass Raps.

Great baits. I really like the purple glass rap. It's a great bait for smallies and walleye around here and it cast better in our typically windy conditions than the original Shad Raps do.

What do you guys throw them on?

I love the Shad Rap line of baits. Not exclusively fishing the plastic and glass raps. I also like the purple and black patterns. Have a few patterns in the balsa that are killer. I find that during the season I have to switch up sizes. Through the summer I find #5 to be a bit more productive. Late summer into fall I throw the larger #7. My most productive patterns I have in both sizes. I got the chance to play around with the newer "live pattern" Shad Raps late this summer. Caught fish but still out to lunch on them. Won't put my others away any time soon for the life likes.

Rapalas are good stuff.

I have pondered buying a few glass shad raps, but didn't know about the durability.

They hold up real well. Tackle Warehouse has a good color selection. Probably the complete color choices. I find them to be the best dealer there is for Rapalas.

I like to throw them on a 6'6"-7' med mod-fast.

I fish mine on a 6' 8" m/f spinning rod with a 30 size President and 8lb C21.

I have one that's over 10 years old and has caught well over 100 fish, has gone through a few set of hooks but is still going strong.

Good to know. I just may have to grab a few in anticipation of the acquisition of a paddle craft.

Thanks for the response! I would throw them more often but I hate spinning rods, unless its for a drop shot.

They are not made of glass .

I figured that out, but still don't own one.
