I think this is the start of a great day of fishing!

Managed to catch 50 or so bass between friday morning and saturday evening. Most were within 2 to 5 feet of water and caught on a green pumpkin or junebug ned rig. None over 14 inches however. 

First frog and top water bass!!!

I wish I had water like that near me.  We have been catching lots fewer fish but better size.  Mostly 16-18 inch fish but they don't come fast enough to keep the kids interested.  I can't find those aggressive little ones.  Their getting some 4-6 inch bass while targeting panfish so the population as a whole looks good just seems like we're missing a size range.   

Man they went through a whole package of sencos today! I didn't weigh them, but most seemed to be in the 2-3# range, and aggressive as can be! First time using plastic worms, even caught a big catfish on the senco. Caught a 4 lb'er on the Ned rig! Heck of a great day!

The problem with Indiana is you either choose to catch quantity or quality. Personally I'll always choose quantity haha.

I'm still not convinced that the ned any better than other baits but I clearly dose catch fish when you are an an area you can get away with fishing an exposed hook on the bottom.

I went to Westwood Lake in New Castle. I figured it would have a lot less boat traffic than Summit or Geist. In hindsight, maybe I should have gone to the bigger lakes to find the bigger fish. I caught a ton of 12-inch largemouth. Unfortunately my biggest fish of the day was only 15.5 inches. Still, I managed to come in 12th place (out of 28 anglers) with my top 3 totaling 40.75 inches. 

How did y'all do?

On another note, I'm looking for suggestions on new places for me to do some kayak fishing. So far, I've fished Geist, Summit, Westwood, Salamonie, and Mississinewa lakes. Where should I go next? 

I'm having fun exploring the state. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Whitewater State Park near Liberty is kayak friendly. Brookville lake is close by as well, but it's much bigger.

If your up for a drive check out the strip pits in linton. They are all electric motor only so you won't have to worry about the pleasure boaters.

Oh, wow. 120 lakes in Greene-Sullivan State Forest. I'm definitely going to check this out. I'll have to do a little research to figure out which lakes to hit. I don't have a kayak cart so I'll be limited to the pits that are accessible by road.

The ones at linton all have boat ramps as far as I know, you can also check out chinook fwa, there's 5 or 6 pits that are all accessible from the road.

We fished Richart lake down by Seymour. We had gone out on Thursday night and we're finding big fish. Not quit the same on Saturday though. I managed 9th, my wife was 11th and step son was 17th. I felt pretty good with this being a new experience and this being our first year bass fishing.

I visit the strip pits in Linton/Dugger about twice a year.  I would suggest going to airline pit in Linton.  Right around the corner from that pit is Grambill the fish aren't very big in Grambill but you will catch a lot. Both airline and Grambill have crystal clear water and is amazing seeing all the underwater life swimming around.  The scenery alone is almost worth it.  I caught this 5.25lb bass this Saturday out of airline.

Limited at some pits and zero at others.  Check the maps on google like you are and you may find some places to fish but I would, if possible, get out on the lakes.

I'm trying to talk the wife into a small Jon boat for the strip pits, that's about all I fish other than small ponds I don't need a boat for.

I know the bait shop just as you are entering the strip pit area from Linton has a handful of aluminum Jon boats out front for sale.  Don't know the price but I'm assuming they may be a little pricey considering his prices for everything else. But may be worth a look if you're down there.

I found one at academy in Terre haute, 14' no trailer, with it and a trolling motor I can be on the water for under a grand, of course that means I don't have the ease of launching with a trailer, but the boat only weighs a little over 100 lbs, so it wouldn't be to bad to put it in and out of the truck by myself.

I recently purchased a sun dolphin 8' boat with a few custom add on from a guy for 700. trolling motor, battery, nice seats and a few other things.  Best purchase I have made in awhile it's light weight can get in and out of places most boats can't and perfect for two ppl.

I'll sell you my 12' three seater and two or three trolling motors for cheap.

its always funny how everyone thinks 14 foot jonboats are easy to load by yourself.  ya it can be done but its a real pain by yourself ya they dont weigh much but its 14 foot of all awkwardness.  if it were me ild try to find one used with  a trailer alot easier to load even by hand
