Abu Garcia Revo S Baitcasters?

Featured Replies

Are these good reels for someone who is on a budget and just getting started in low profile baitcasters and bass fishing?

Yea i think so,I have a few of there Max reels and have never had a problem.Abu is pretty solid all the way around.

If your set on buying one make sure to check out the auction sites. They can be had under $100 if you look around. As always its a good idea to handle one in person before buying to make sure its a good its comfortable.

Maybe Falcon?  Tough to find a USA rod that's not going to be significantly more $ than the reel...

First welcome to the forum.  A rod 6'6" to 7' MF or MHF is a very good place to start for an all-around rod. I am a fan of Fenwick rods.  The HMG 7' MF is actually in the weight range for quite a few of my MHF rods at 1/4-3/4 oz.  It retails for $99.99.  I have never used an H2O rod, but they get good reviews.  I've read good things about the $79.99 Berkley E-Motions.  They have a 6'9" MF and 7' MHF that should work fine.

For less money, the Berkley Lightning and Lightning Shock are excellent rods for the moolah.  Personally prefer the Lightning over the Shock.

I have no idea where these rods are made.  Going to be a little hard to find an American made rod for less than $100...I think.  No idea where the Falcon Originals are made, but they are another decent possibility.  My personal best largemouth was caught on a 7' MH Original.

Never tried a revo s but I have a couple revo sx's and i love them. Can't be much different between the two. The Abu Garcia vendetta rod is nice also at $79.

Spoiler

I think the Falcon Original are made in the USA!

14-1 Fishing rods are a great option i believe, based on the reviews. Also, check out some of the rods on sale at TW.

The Revo S is definitely a good choice. Check on Amazon, I got mine for a little under $90. Also if you are looking for a good all purpose, made in the USA rod, I would recommend a falcon Bucoo 7' MH. I think those run around $100-110. They basically made this rod to be an all purpose rod, which was exactly why I got mine. Can't go wrong with either

I have two of the S models.  Very good reels.

At one time the entire Revo line was one of the most talked about on here for a long time because they were, and still are, good reliable reels. I have an S and use it often.

Good reel

Thanks guys going to get a 6'10'' or 7' MH Falcom Bucoo rod to mount it on.

If you like Abu products, keep an eye on their website. They have really good sales from time to time. I picked up a ProMax combo around Thanksgiving for $50. It's one of their less expensive models (just below Revo) but $50 for a good reel and a MH 7' rod, including shipping is a really good find these days.

I have 2 of the Revo S reels and have had no issues with them. I have both paired with the Abu Veritas rods

Guess it too late to say that st.croix premiers are made in the U.S.

Looks like a good combo to me.
