Versatile line for spinning rod

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a versatile line for my spinning rod. I want to use it for weightless senkos, Shakey heads, Texas rigs, and lipless cranks (the reel has 33 IPT). I was thinking mabey I could use braid with a flouro leader would this work?

If so What at pound braid and flouro?

you're already on the right track as far as i'm concerned.  for this situation, i'd go like 20lb braid and leader of your choice.  Otherwise, you could go straight mono, but my preference would be braid + leader.

I started out with 10# braid with a 7# fc leader. I have now gone back to using just Sunline 7# fc, no braid.

Braid and leaders is a good way to go. I do however carry some spools with all FC, and all mono. There are advantages to each. But keeping things simple: braid with leaders.

I use braid + leader on every setup, spinning/casting.
Line management is so much better in my experience,
and I've had no issues with my line-to-leader knots.

I use both 10# and 15# test PowerPro on my spinning
rods, and leaders anywhere from 4-15# test depending
on the circumstances.

A spool of good fluorocarbon will last you a long time
as leader material. I have some fluoro, but actually use
copoly 98% of the time for all my soft plastics fishing.

Personally I am a straight flouro guy, 8lb Invizx. Which would be perfect for the first few techniques you list. But my concern with any line is the size of the lipless cranks and t-rigs. Line you could go with 20lb braid and leader but make sure the rod can handle these, larger lipless or t-rigs could leave you wanted more power in the rod making it less than ideal for the other techniques.

12-15 lb braid, 6-10 lb fluoro leader depending on the application.

You should take a look at Gliss mono

Another suggestion - for fishing finesse soft plastics either weightless or on light jigs/bullets, a high vis braid makes a great main line for line watching and offers great sensitivity.

15# hi vis braid with 12# flouro, this will slay em with senkos.

Id do all FC. 8lb Sniper or Tatsu if its still on sale at TW.

I'd get a different rig to throw lipless cranks with.
