Daiwa Fuego

Hey, is the new Fuego casting reel the same animal as the older red one?

It's a Tatula without T-Wing.  I'd get an original Fuego in good condition for less than a hundred before I thought about the current model.

No, the old Fuego was a lesser version of Daiwa´s flagship TDZ reel, the new Fuego is far from being even a much lesser version of the Steez.

What can one expect to pay for an older Fuego in NIB condition?

  • Super User

They sold for $230 new.  Bought mine on closeout from TW for $145.  One in that condition would be worth $150....to me.  Others would probably offer $125 for it.  They are excellent reels....under-rated by many....but not by some of us.

Lots of available parts to mod it except the 100m spool is no longer in production.  Mine (3 of them) are tuned and have upgraded bearings and Carbontex drags.  Don't notice much difference with the upgraded bearings, but I figured go for it since the reels were already being worked on.  Bearings aren't that expensive.

For an NIB the price would be around $140 - $180.

Lightly used lefty models are $60-90 on ebay.  One just went for $61.

Wow.  Do they have a handle, spool, bearings, gears, etc.?   My stupid computer can only find the new ones on ebay.   They start at about $95.   Definitely can't be anywhere near as good as the older $230 model.

A lightly used older Fuego at those prices is a no brainer.  Would never consider going that low for mine.  I'd give them to a deserving person before I'd sell them for $90 or less.

I'm deserving, I swear I am.

NIB condition Fuego's are getting harder to find!  I check ebay almost every day for these and it's been awhile since I've seen really nice ones.  They do occasionally show up and usually bring over $120.  Some have gone for under $90 this winter but expect prices to climb again real soon.
