Haven't had much luck with this and wondering how you are fishing it and if you are catching bass.

Punching. It's a good one for it. Peg, tungsten, skirt, Devil Spear. 

I'm guessing they'd be OK for a Shakey Head too. 

I got rid of all of mine after having zero success flipping with them. After seeing how they move on a straight retrieve, I bought some more to try on a bladed jig. I haven't had a chance yet, but I have high hopes for them.

I would think the smaller Devil Spear rigged vertical on a bladed jig would offer the best chance for success with this soft plastic .

Haven't posted about it until now, but I have used the Spear rigged vertically on the Rage Blade a bit.

Both with & without a skirt.  Caught a few too; green ones, brown ones and some with Big Teeth.

Makes for a compact presentation and has a good action.

I also had ZERO success with the larger one as a flipping/pitching and punching bait. The smaller worked well for me on a swinging Biffle type head, but I ran out of those one day, put a small Pit Boss on in it's place and kept catching fish, so I deemed the Devil Spear as expendable and haven't used them since.

I found I had some of the less desirable larger ones which I may cut down and use on a chatter bait or swim jig - what do readers think about using on a pivot / swivel head jig on the bottom ? The thickness of the larger size is a bit of a concern , so thinking the EWG 4/0 hooks on most pivot / swivel heads may produce with the larger Devil Spear.

I've rigged them on a lighter punch skirt rig with 3/8 oz tungsten and swam through the grass.  They work pretty well that way.    

Like other guys mentioned, they are a decent vibrating jig trailer.  If you have the large size, get out the scissors and give them a hair cut.

Also, depending where you guys live/fish - if you rig them on a belly weighted swimbait hook and swim around shallow grass (milfoil) you'll get knocked for sure.   

I also use them as a chatterbait trailer, they are #3,4 on my list of trailers that I use

one of my favorite soft baits....Love to buzz a solid black one on top of mats since it is thick and stays on the shank easy, and soft for good hook sets, and the ridges kick up some nice water when fished like a toad...I also like to let them sink into pockets and usually use a hook that has weight toward the front...

I fish them for punching or pitching on almost every trip since I can swim them out, they get through nasty cover easy since it is a simple bait, and you can punch it and then hop it or slowly swim...I rig em sideways to swim like a grub in open water and flat when punching...Usually I can get away with 1/2-3/4 pegged with the Devils spear in the larger size...

You really can't fish it wrong, it is a paddle tail grub with a ribbed tail and nice thick body...Great swim jig trailers as well....or rage rigged. Often times in the colder weather when the Bass are suspended or hanging in heavy cover they won't hit a bait that has a ton of action, which is why I think baits like the Menace, Devils Spear, or a tube work so well, you give the action to the bait and control it and the fall rate between 1/2 and 3/4 vs. 1/4 can all matter so just experiment and after a while you will get the feel for when they want a faster fall vs. slower fall and it is not always as easy as cold vs warm unfortunately...Sometimes it is the opposite which is why terminal tackle is more important imo when fishing soft baits than anything else..I consider many punching baits hook holders....Like the BB Cricket and Devils spear at times, you can split the tail as well.....

I bought a whole bunch of these on clearance for $1.77 and I'm still figuring out how to rig them.
